"Every vote in this country should have equal weight. The Electoral College is a relic of a bygone era, and we need to change this system," said Connecticut state Sen. Mae Flexer, who filed a bill with several fellow Democrats requiring Connecticut to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

Well then, that shall give the states which don't agree the right to succeed, necessarily. That's the whole idea of the electoral college in the first place.

You’re right and maybe in the near future when Trump turns this country around there won’t even be 6. How good would that be?...........;)

Thank God and our Founders for the wisdom of the Electoral College system. May it never be replaced or in any way amended.
California is so out on the fringe that they had two democrat women candidates running against each other to succeed Barbara Boxer. They couldn’t even come up with a viable republican for that senate seat for the general election.
Heaven help us if the land of fruit and nuts, now known widely as Mexifornia, ever gains the overwhelming influence to determine the leader of our nation and the free world!!!

BTW, as a rather disenfranchised conservative voter in another hopelessly pathetic blue state (Maryland), I say hands off this and all other brilliant provisions in our Constitution!!!

“Could backfire...”

Great point. And it’s exactly why we have the EC. Who’d want to lose their voice in choosing the President?

This article is just fake news crap.

By all means liberal states, give roughly half your votes to whomever the GOP candidate is!!

No State in their right mind would do this. The only states where legislators would try to further this, would be the reddest of red states.

Typical MSM lame writeup, which fails to mention that Congress would have final approval of such an interstate compact.

Even more stupid for the butthurt Democrat snowflakes to make it an interstate deal. There is nothing in the Constitution that details how the individual states have to determine their votes. If each state, INDIVIDUALLY, decided to use the "total nation vote winner gets our electoral votes", I can't see how anyone could stop them.

As soon as they develop and sign a pact among states, however, it would probably be shot down in the courts as patently unconstitutional. At worst, the interstate part of it would move it into the realm of the Federal government, whatever that would do to things.

With all due respect long term Freeper you...

Politics isn’t permanent. In 2-4 yrs the Dems will be back with a transformation.

Whether it is 2 or 4 depends on how suicidal they get between now and inauguration.

Ever since the counting Chad crap, Florida has gone red more than not. After the crap pulled in Wisconsin, PA and Michigan....?

All the votes have not been counted. . .

All the illegal votes have not been verified.
All the duplicates have not been verified.
All the dead voters that voted have not been verified.

All this after-the-fact hand wringing about the “national popular vote” is more leftist BS to attempt to de-legitimize Trump’s victory. I’m so sick of these people.

And isn’t there an equal protection issue wrapped up in this? I vote for Trump, e.g., in a state that goes for Trump - but instead my vote is effectively voided if Clinton wins the “national popular vote” and my state is part of the compact. Seems profoundly unconstitutional.

In order to put this halfassed “scheme” in place, all voter fraud would have to be prevented. No illegal aliens would be allowed to vote. Only U.S. Citizens could cast ballots. All ballots would have to be counted including all mail-in ballots as well as all provisional ballots. No ballot could remain uncounted. All voting machines would need to somehow be verified to stop incidents like Detroit where every ballot for Clinton registered 6 votes. No one knows who actually got the most legal votes in the last election. Given the massive fraud found in just the three states that were recounted I strongly suspect Trump won the popular vote by a lsndslide.

I think we ought to pass a bill to force tiny pissant states like Connecticut and Rhode Island to merge. They can decide which two ultraleft U.S. Senators they wish to keep.

Hell, minimum size to maintain statehood should be 7056 square miles. I arrived that by squaring 84. If you can't drive at least 84 miles, you need to merge with another state.

IIRC this “consortium” is unconstitutional unless it gets Congressional approval.

Did they ever think about changing their agenda instead of changing the electoral college way of electing a President? When California and New York decide who is elected to that office... this country will not come back from any extinction.

They lost in a very big way.. obama was rejected... the left was rejected... the establishment was rejected... the media was rejected!

Let’s all accept the truth, the popular vote that Hitlery got was due to VOTER FRAUD!! CA used the motor voter law to allow illegals to vote! There was massive voter fraud found in Nevada and elsewhere.
