Israel, through no fault of its own, is a pariah nation almost completely surrounded by larger nations that do not even recognize the existence of the State of Israel. Iran routinely refers to Israel as the "Little Satan," and European nations typically take overtly anti-Israeli policies to curry favor with Islam. Yet Israel is not alone in being disparaged for no reason other than that it is small and its enemies are large.
Taiwan, the Republic of China, is a free land that has political and civil values precisely like what we ought to want the rest of the world to have. Freedom House has only two nations in Asia stretching from Sinai to Sakhalin listed as "Free," Japan and Taiwan, which has a freer press than even Israel or South Korea. The contrast between Taiwan and most nations in Asia is as stark as the contrast between Israel and the nations surrounding it in west Asia and north Africa.
Freedom House gives Taiwan the "1" rating (the highest rating) for political rights and "2" for civil rights, exactly the same rating as Israel. China, by contrast, is listed as "unfree," the worst category, and it has a "7" rating (the lowest rating) for political rights and a "6" (the second lowest rating) for civil rights.
Taiwan is a prosperous land, despite the absence of natural resources. The island's per capita GDP is $47,000 per year higher than Germany or France or Canada and just as Taiwan is as free and democratic as Israel, Taiwan is as prosperous as Israel, despite, like Israel, having no real wealth except the diligence and intelligence of its people.

Interesting. I had never heard Taiwan being compared to Israel. But I do see the point here
If you'd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.
Did someone say “Tibet”?

You can see that most nations simply choose appease the powerful force of Islam or Communist China. All the one-world govt stuff doesn’t sound like a good idea if that is how things will work.
An excellent analogy.
Yes indeed.
Visit Taiwan. One of the last safe places for tourists. People are friendly and helpful with everything. Tons of sites to see and the food is great. Trains and buses run on time to the minute.
We stayed in a motel 2 blocks from a beautiful 2 miles long white sand beach for $32. a night.
My family and extended family has served as English teacher missionaries for many years in Taiwan. I have never personally visited but have received numerous invitations. One day.
No other reason?
The relationship between Taiwan and China can we’ll be compared to Israel and the Arab World.
Here is an interesting Taiwan TV program that portrays Christianity in a positive light with Christian symbolism frequently displayed as a part of daily life.
I described “Office Girls” as an allegory on Communist China changing as the youth take control.

Excellent point!
True but ironic. Chiang Kai-shek was unfortunately very pro-moslem and anti-Zionist and the ROC voted against partition in ‘47 (unlike the Soviet Bloc at the time, which is why Israel recognized Red China in ‘49). Even after Chiang was gone Taiwan once forbade an El-Al flight from landing/deplaning/whatever on Taiwan. The Israelis pointed out the irony at the time and the fact that the two countries found themselves in the same boat (conveniently omitting their recognition of Mao in ‘49).
Another thing we did to free people. Truman stopped MacArthur from defeating the communists.
Also, Taiwan is not a member of the United Nations and has almost no formal diplomatic relations.
The US should abandon the “One China” policy and formally recognize both Chinas.
