I disagree with the main point in this article. Germans are socialists, first and foremost. If you really believe that “the Government” is omnipotent akin to God (as does my ex-wife), you’re going to have a rough life regardless. For example, When the Germans sent all that bailout money to Greece, I asked my wife if she realized that her government pension just went to Greece. She replied that they were just trying to help other people. Rough life indeed!

Merkel's decision to welcome refugees as "an act of atonement" ..., seven decades after the Holocaust....the passivity of many Germans by a feeling of collective guilt.... they want to compensate for what Germany did to the Jews by welcoming hundreds of thousands of Muslims..
