Later, Jersey! Why people are leaving the Garden State in droves
New Jersey 101.5 (WKXW, Trenton) ^ | January 4, 2017 10:00 AM | Dennis (Malloy) and Judi (Franco)

For five straight years, a study by United Van Lines says that New Jersey is the state most abandoned in all of the country, meaning the biggest percentage of out-of-state moves that it does are from New Jersey — 63 percent to be specific.

We’ve spoken to so many listeners who have moved out of Jersey over the years that it was difficult to even begin a list of reasons, but here are some things we came up with, just to name a few:

  1. Property Taxes (obviously): When you talk to family and friends from out of town and realize that they are paying in a year what you’re paying in a month for your property taxes, it’s hard to think of not booking the next airplane or moving van out of here.
  2. Corruption: The only state in the country that allows the kind of double dipping and other public employment shenanigans that we do here in the state.
  3. Overregulation: Especially for small businesses, it’s difficult to get anything done in a state where there’s a rule and a fee for everything and almost everything is illegal. …

Well, if some NJers are bailing out, hopefully they are the wealthiest ones. Starve the welfare-piracy state.

I spent about 10 months or so in NJ (Livingston).

Ho hum — sorta boring. Took a (Winter) drive up the Jersey Coast — nice but no great shakes. California coast is a lot prettier and more interesting.

I think we can cut NJ loose with no great loss. Pennsylvania gets more coastline.

jeeZ!

Everyone wants to leave. Demand for THAT is high —> Expensive to LEAVE

Few want to go there. Demand for that is LOW —> Cheap to go there

Don’t know what’s wrong with me :(

There are many, many areas of NY and NJ that are not infested with liberals. You’ve heard of white flight? There is also right flight.

In the us if there was no specific law forbidding something it was legal. In most of europe if there was no specific law permitting something, it was illegal. Negative law vs positive law.

This is exactly the kind of society that leftists love because it is Fascist to the core. These Marxist-inspired, anti-American leftists simply cannot stand the thought of individual liberty. Everyone MUST conform to what Big Brother determines is best for them. So, if Big Brother hasn’t authorized what you would like to do, you cannot do it.

And they’ve ruined perfectly good counties in GA like Cobb and Gwinnett.

Over the last couple of weekends I’ve driven through some towns in New Jersey that are among the four or five zip codes in the U.S. with the highest median incomes. I was shocked at how many homes are listed for sale out in those places.

We left there 20 years ago for Maryland. Maryland is actually better.

Right -- that's what makes it so screwed up.

Housing costs should DECLINE when more people are fleeing than moving in.

They haven’t learned to love the “Bennies” in spite of how much of their tax bill gets paid by them. Perhaps due to the road traffic that resulted from the transportation policies they wanted to uphold.

There is a large pool of people in NJ who work in lower Manhattan in finance - it’s an easy commute. In the towns without any houses under $1 million, it’s about 90% of the people.

This bunch is not going anywhere, since they are tied to jobs that pay $200-500K. For them, NJ is a nice place to live. A guy I know moved into a new development of houses in the $2-5 million range.

The relative property tax is less in these towns, because the property prices are so high and the tax base is large.

For U-haul it’s 2x cheaper to rent a trailer to leave California than to move TO Calif.

If people are fleeing California, it should be the other way round.
