Donald Trump Plans Revamp of Top U.S. Spy Agency
Wall Street Journal ^

Posted on 01/04/2017 4:06:18 PM PST by springwater13

President-elect Donald Trump, a harsh critic of U.S. intelligence agencies, is working with top advisers on a plan that would restructure and pare back the nation’s top spy agency, people familiar with the planning said, prompted by a belief that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence has become bloated and politicized.

The planning comes as Mr. Trump has leveled a series of social media attacks in recent months and the past few days against U.S. intelligence agencies, dismissing and mocking their assessment that the Russian government hacked emails of Democratic groups and individuals and then leaked them last year to WikiLeaks and others in an effort to help Mr. Trump win the White House.

One of the people familiar with Mr. Trump’s planning said advisers also are working on a plan to restructure the Central Intelligence Agency, cutting back on staffing at its Virginia headquarters and pushing more people out into field posts around the world. The CIA declined to comment on the plan.

“The view from the Trump team is the intelligence world [is] becoming completely politicized,” said the individual, who is close to the Trump transition operation. “They all need to be slimmed down. The focus will be on restructuring the agencies and how they interact.”

Let’s see if Brennan can walk across the Potomac without a boat or bridge.... He has to be the first to go.

I think it’s utterly silly that we have so many different agencies.

Really! When the average person heard that "17 intelligence agencies agreed that the Russians hacked the election", I'd bet most of them thought "There are 17 intelligence agencies? What in the heck do we need that many for?".

...

I remember when Carter made a mess of things by relying more on satellites and less on people in the field.

Roll CIA covert ops back into the military, restrict the Agency to analysis.

Yo do exactly what Trump seems to want to do.

You restructure and clean it up.

I am not in favor of doing away with it.

The Army, the Navy, the Air Force, codebreakers and spy satellites all have a different focus for intel.

I will agree with a summary of your post that the different agencies are needed, but not for the reasons you state.

Each agency has different missions, and the purpose is not to get different opinions, but to have multiple sources that will together provide a clearer picture of what adversaries would rather us not see.

Example, (nothing I say here is classified, but I wont elaborate further) CIA is primarily human intelligence, NSA is primary signals intelligence, etc. In each case, they are looking for clues and queues within their respective areas. If something of interest is found, they might collaborate with one of the other agencies to find additional information by focusing other assets that did not get the first indication. If the other assets are successful, together they help form a more complete picture of what is happening.

All of these agencies have "customers", one of the biggest being DoD. The information that is gathered is supposed to be used to help military planners at all levels prepare for the threats in the world, from figuring out what weapons systems need to be developed and procured for new threats by Pentagon generals to figuring out where and when to deploy assets (troops/ships/planes) to take out bad guys by local commanders.

Hope this explains it better.

Yes, there is a den of Muslim trolls , with the Muslim anti Israel troll in Chief, Director Brennan. Clean them out. Put them on the ground in Southern Libya and Western Sudan , where Obama and his caliphate cronies intend to base a demographic warfare invasion of Spain.

The CIA likely has some very nasty plans for Spain.

Sounds good to me. Like any Fedgov department or agency, the CIA is top heavy like most bureaucracies. Fire the redundant positions. And yes, put more in the field as National Clandestine Service (NCS) agents formerly known as NOC’s (non-official cover - spies). Maybe the term still exists in the bowels of the CIA. I wouldn’t know.

4th Director of National Intelligence

James Clapper, former DNI, lied to Congress in 2013. He wasn’t misinformed. He flat out fibbed about NSA collecting bulk records about millions of phone calls in the U.S. CIA (and FBI and other departments) are politicized now.

James Clapper, former DNI, lied to Congress in 2013. ... Surprise!

Time to clean house.
