Yes. In the US you can check a gun, in a locked box, inside your bag and you may have ammo in the bag as well, but not in the box. That’s how I travel.

Yes. But of course packaged separately and by airline regulations (containers, etc). Prob why he went to the bathroom to load. I thought I heard a witness say it was a pistol.
