American journalist Sandhya Kambhampati was stopped by police 23 times within her first nine months of living in Berlin. Now shes investigating racial profiling in Germany and is looking for others to share experiences.
The first time 24-year-old Sandhya Kambhampati was stopped by an officer in Berlin, she had gone to a park for a morning jog after arriving in the city days before. The officer asked her what she was doing, where she lived, and for her ID. When she told him she only had her keys, he said she should always carry identification and left. [ ]
Nine months later and she had been stopped and checked by police a total of 23 times while going to a museum, going to the U-Bahn station, or while out to socialize, being picked out of a group of white friends. [ ]
Growing up in New Jersey and studying in Ohio, Kambhampati said she had encountered discrimination in the US as well, and similar issues of racism exist in both places. But the different immigration histories of the two countries also seems to have affected how people act today.

Seh’s probably too chunky to come across as being a dangerous Muslim IMO.
I call BS on her claims.
“When you leave this country, you do not take the Constitution with you, dumbass reporter................”
Yes, and with name like that, it’s no wonder! Is’t diversity wonderful.
When traveling overseas, I always carry my passport with me. What moron would not do so?
From the looks of her, the only time she “jogs” is to chase an ice cream truck.
Actually, she looks more black than any kind of arabic/semite.
Sounds like they were doing their jobs.
Youre in a foreign country, kid...
suck it up...
I was strip searched going into Israel once...
I was profiled...I was the certain number that was counted off in our line of American tourists...
and I’m white and a Christian...
I didn’t moan... I just went behind a screen with a young Israeli security lady who was more embarrassed than I was...and I stripped off every article of clothing...
Did that happen to you ???
I believe you answered the question yourself. Only a moron.
I say BS, Germany doesn't care who is coming into their country these days.....
I am sorry, but if I am in Japan/Philippines/Africa/China and a 6 foot American was the suspect in a crime, I would imagine that I would draw the attention of the local police.
Like I say, if there is a Paul Bunyan contest going in in MN and a crime is committed by a big guy in a checkered shirt, the cops are going to have a lot of suspects to wade through.
They stopped her to see if she qualified for benefits.........
That makes sense, but how could they tell?
Betcha this is the cleanup photo.

If I am in SE DC and the police are looking for an older White guy in a green pickup, chances are someone is going to question me.

I doubt her story, since it seems that German LE is having its hands tied behind their backs due to the Greenies running the show.
If this is true... GOOD. The Polizei are doing their job. It is not white skin heads, bearded Jews, or lederhosen clad Bavarians causing the mayhem in Germany. It is dark skinned people.
If this woman was jogging and cruising around by the Reichstag, Rathaus, or anywhere downtown near the federal buildings EVERYONE is asked for IDs and what they are doing. If she’s a “reporter” she was most likely holding a camera and loitering about way more than the tourists.
I have been asked many many times for my ID, which is my passport, on the U-bahn, S-Bahn, and RE trains. I am as white as they come and have been asked at least that many times for my passport.
This also exposes what the Polizei really know. They know the threats to the city and they know the truth about what the threats look like, BUT, they won’t say anything because of the PC destroying the nation.
(Disclaimer... I live about 20 minutes south or Berlin in Zeuthen 4-6 months of the year consulting.)
One of my favorite places to sit and people watch is right by the Russian embassy just next to the Brandenburg Gate. If ANYONE is sitting or standing in one place more than 15 or 20 minutes just watching (not eating lunch or not chatting with someone) the Polizei WILL come ask you what you’re doing and for your ID. They ask ANYONE. They don’t say much else once they check. It’s just to let you know they’re aware of you.
New Jersey is a great place to be from. It’s only a problem if that is your current residence. :)
Years ago, I was working as a subcontractor to the U.S. Embassy to process Laotian refugees in the Loei camp in Thailand. My wife and I were on a night bus to Bangkok. Back then, the police stopped buses at checkpoints to search for commies or whatnot.
At the stop, all the men had to get off the bus. The cops got in the bus and asked people where the foreigner’s bag was. My wife pointed to our shared bag in the overhead rack. They found a Hmong hill tribe machete in there (I collect such stuff.) Oh, big problem! Weapon!
Took me about 10 minutes to convince the police that it was no big deal, every farmer up country has big knife. Having an official ID helped.
They had the bus stewardess hold the knife until we got to Bangkok. Fellow passengers were ticked because of the delay. The stewardess scolded me; said she’d told people that anyone with a weapon was supposed to check it with her. :)
My wife never admitted to being my wife. I always wonder what the cops thought about the foreigner who had a bunch of ladies undergarments in his bag. LOL.
Some ethnic habits die hard, although you can’t blame them these days. That being said, it’s remarkable how consistent the change in attitude and behavior when you put a uniform on a German. “Papieren, bitte! Schnell!”
