San Francisco Chronicle ^ | January 10, 2017

How does California draw up a state budget when Washington Republicans may yank away billions in revenue? That’s the biggest what-if question for Gov. Jerry Brown as he sketches an early season spending plan.

The pledge by Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers to repeal the 6-year-old Affordable Care Act puts California at the financial brink. No state has embraced the federal plan as avidly, with some $16 billion in federal money going to enroll nearly 4 million residents.

California has one-third of the nation’s welfare recipients.

Sounds plausible.A breakdown might go:

California-33%

New York-25%

Illinois-15%

Virginia-7%

Maryland-5%

Massachusetts-5%

Hawaii-2%

Delaware-1%

Now what do all those states have in common?

“Ending Obamacare would mean up huge hit to California budget”

AHHH! What a terribly worded title! Nobody proofs! (I admit I don’t proof enough, but I’m not paid to do it)

Why should the rest of the US pay for California Medicaid?

Repeal it and let the states come up with their own programs. Mexifornia and Gov. Medfly can fund the $16 billion for the “4 million residents” currently sucking off the program, including as many illegals as makes them happy.

The 50 sovereign states should have the freedom and responsibility to meddle in health care or not as they choose and if they choose to do so to fund it themselves.

> Wonder if they are going to go ahead with their plans to enroll illegal aliens?

They already have and they started on Day 1, as Joe Wilson correctly pointed out (only to cowardly backtrack later instead of holding his ground).

They could divert the money they’re spending to coddle illegal immigrants.

Just a thought.

What will Jerry Brown do when he no longer has other people’s money to play with?

“Dam, I love getting good news about Californicators.”

As a Californian, I’m just hoping that Trump can actually put this state under financially. BTW the word is “damn,” and I don’t “fornicate.”

Actually about $4,000,000 per enrollee. How can they be so inefficient ... sorry, stupid question.

4 million residents - how many citizens?

Since, by law, EVERYONE already has emergency room admittance, how does CA move those expenses around to taxpayers in other states? Which is what they were doing.

Moving from millions to billions is only 3 zeroes.

Still, crazily stupid “economy of scale”.
