A Bucks County high school is feeling the heat after math students were given a question to solve that involved sexual abuse.
The students at Pennridge High School in Perkasie were given a homework assignment that involved trying to figure out which family member assaulted a young girl.
In a statement, Superintendent Jacqueline A. Rattigan apologized and said the question was “downloaded from a website that allows teachers around the world to share educational resources.”
They were given the question: “y = x+2, 3x+6y = 12, Angelou was sexually abused by her mother’s ___ at age 8, which shaped her career choices and motivation for writing.” The multiple choice answers were boyfriend, brother or father.
“It is not part of our approve curriculum,” Rattigan said. The district has taken "steps to avoid such occurrences in the future."

What a creative idea! Combine a math test with a reading comprehension test! Then we'll know which students are both innumerate and illiterate.
E.g., consider question 5. If you are innumerate, you pick (c) because "bookie" and "drug dealer" are not female professions, but "night club dancer" clearly is. Or, if you are illiterate, then the equations simplify to 5y = 25, so y is 5, and x is 4, and (c) is again the correct answer.

7. If the average spray can covers 22 square feet and the average letter is 3 square feet, how many letters can a tagger spray with 3 cans of paint?
8. Hector knocked up 6 girls in his gang. There are 27 girls in the gang. What percentage of the girls in the gang has Hector knocked up?
9. Thelma can cook dinner for her 16 children for $7.50 per night. She gets $234 a month welfare for each child. If her $325 per month rent goes up 15%, how many more children should she have to keep up with her expenses?
10. Salvador was arrested for dealing crack and his bail was set at $25,000. If he pays a bail bondsman 12% and returns to Mexico, how much money will he lose by jumping bail?

Once the students realize the importance and value of politically corrected social studies they will recognize the genius of common core education is the learning of mathematics and other logic based studies can be achieved by osmosis.

The justification is that if the students don’t know how to solve systems of equations, but they know a few trivial facts about Maya Angelou, they can correctly guess the answer.
Bucks County is another name for Philadelphia. Which is not part of PA, but actually part of NJ.

I ran into this nonsense, although not to this degree, back in the 90s. They called it cross curricular something or other. English studies would be inserted into math and vise versa in an effort to broaden each study.
