Absent the obvious cronyism, I actually don’t even mind the subsidy. Practically everything else in the energy sector has been or is. I’m interested in the individual autonomy that solar could promise. I couldn’t care less about the “green” aspect, other than that it might get the control freaks off my back as far as imaginary carbon emissions.
Most irritating to me is that Few components are manufactured to be interchangeable / replaceable / repairable with other brands.
I am reminded of the solar hot water craze 30 years ago.......I would guess less than 5% of those systems are still operational. As manufacturers go bankrupt their parts can become almost impossible to get.
I see no efforts to standardize the interchangeability of components ....
I see solar and other self-reliance friendly technologies as being a sort of poison pill for cronyism and corruption.
Corruption and cronyism look to pooled economic resources to tap into. A monopoly utility or large scale economic operation is the host that these parasites can latch onto. Distribute the production of energy to the single house level and the parasites have a much harder time.
