...and the machine gun was on top of a burning German Tank that could have exploded at any moment.

Anyhow, I should clarify that the original article from the New Yorker was by the author, Pat Cunanne. I had begun to post that article, but New Yorker posts are prohibited. Then I forgot to remove the author name.

Some other excerpts:

The Rose Garden is dark at midnight, and quiet. As November 8th turned to the 9th, it was also empty. I was alone, drinking bourbon from a cracked plastic cup. I walked off the colonnade, crumbled to the ground. . .

We woke up to a gloomy, rainy day. It was fitting, but also a bit much—like we were living a movie with a lazy script. In the basement of the West Wing, gallows humor was a way to cope with the shock. I heard a White House aide facetiously plead with a counterterrorism staffer, “Please tell me it was the Russians.”

The President’s assistant dropped in to tell us that the President wanted to see us in the Oval Office. . . “This is not the apocalypse,” he said.

At this point, I broke down. This was not the poised sniffling that the moment called for. I was full-blown ugly crying in the Oval Office as the President gave us a pep talk.

Obama gave the White House staff a pep talk about President Donald Trump’s stunning victory...

Here's how I think it went:

"I'm going to tell you the bad news first and then the good news. The bad news is that Donald Trump will be President. The good news is that Hillary Clinton won't."

Audie Murphy!

A genuine hero and a modest man as well.

One of my favorite WWII warriors when I was growing up.

All the neighborhood kids admired him.

I’m loving this thread.
My grandfathers were WW2 vets, but they were gone before I arrived in this world.
My neighbor was a WW2 vet but he died a few years ago.
My lawyer is a WW2 vet and he is still practicing law.
According to my parents, my grandfathers almost never mentioned their war experiences.
I’ve had better luck with the neighbor and the lawyer.

I’d like to take all these crybabies and stick em on the beaches of Iwo Jima Feb 1945

Hmmm.

Iwo or Bloody Tarawa?

Bloody Tarawa or Iwo?

Gosh - that's a hard choice to make.

At either one real men would have had to drag the sniviling pussies out of the landing craft.

On 7 June 1971, Murphy was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Murphy's grave site is in Section 46, headstone number 46-366-11, located across Memorial Drive from the Amphitheater. A special flagstone walkway was later constructed to accommodate the large number of people who visit to pay their respects. It is the cemetery's second most-visited grave site, after that of President John F. Kennedy.

The headstones of Medal of Honor recipients buried at Arlington National Cemetery are normally decorated in gold leaf. Murphy previously requested that his stone remain plain and inconspicuous, like that of an ordinary soldier. The headstone contains the birth year 1924, based upon purportedly falsified materials among his military records.

I make it a point to ridicule, dismiss or laugh at a LIB several times each day. Thank God the LIB lunatics lost this election. No quarter for these intellectual inbreds.

I think the “ugly crying” among the libs (and the OP author) indicates that they built their identity and self-esteem upon the narcissistic “vision” that Obama presented to them. They belived they were “holy” and the only ones capable of leading the lesser beings known as citizens. Losing meant that they were stripped of their moral vanity medals and from a pragmatic standpoint, their illustrious futures. They had ascended to stand among the Greek columns (behind Obama, of course) and they were kicked out of the company of the Greek gods and must now scrabble among the rabble.

I was just ribbing you since you stated that you can’t believe it’s a he. Reminds me of the androgynous Saturday Night Live character Pat.

“He” and “ugly-crying”

Only a girly-man, a metrosexual, or a dude who needs to turn in his man-card would admit to “ugly-crying,” much less actually do it.

I only cry when I’m feeling sentimental about my kids or when heroes die.

The fact that this pansy, sissy POS was in the White House is ever more proof that 8 years of Obama was 7 years and 364 days too many.

“He” and “ugly-crying”

A President Hillary would have filled her White House staff with sissies like this. And when the next terrorist event happens he would need to run off to his safe space to cuddle puppies and listen to soothing music before reassuming his duties.

As Bill Whittle said, Hillary’s loss was a bullet that we barely dodged.

Actually, Audie Murphy was usually behind a Thompson sub-machine gun, and the Germans in front of it had no safe place.
