Man walking barefoot across America killed in Florida

Mark Baumer, an activist who was walking barefoot across America, was hit and killed by an SUV Saturday afternoon outside of Mossy Head, Florida...

Baumer was pronounced dead at the scene. FHP said alcohol was not a factor. Charges are pending.

Baumer, who was raising awareness for climate change, had just finished his 100th day of his journey. He started in Providence, R.I., and was destined for California. He took a bus to Florida after it started snowing in Ohio. He passed through Tallahassee on Jan. 7.

“The big overall goal is to raise awareness and fight climate change,” Baumer told the Tallahassee Democrat when he passed through town. “The more specific goal of that is to raise awareness and funds for an organization back in Rhode Island that’s fighting climate change.”

The organization is the FANG Collective, a Providence-based environmental organization. The initial goal was to raise $10,000. On Jan. 16, Baumer updated the crowdfunding page saying it was three-quarters of the way to the goal. Now, more than $16,000 has been collected.

The FANG Collective released a statement about Baumer’s death on Facebook...

Baumer updated a blog daily, typically in the morning. His last blog post included a picture that had his feet and the word “Killed” with an arrow above it spray painted on the ground.

On his journey, Baumer would walk on the shoulder of the road or in the grass. If there wasn’t a shoulder to walk on, he would walk in the road.

“The best surface is usually the white line because it’s painted and really smooth,” Baumer said.

A global warming activist was killed after cold weather caused him to take a bus to Florida.

I’m having a hard time feeling sympathy.

“If there wasn’t a shoulder to walk on, he would walk in the road. “The best surface is usually the white line because it’s painted and really smooth,” Baumer said.”

Yeah, I’m having a hard time feeling sympathy.

Years ago I had a breakdown on I70 in western Kansas. I managed to pull off the road and fortunately a trooper was able to check us out almost immediately. I didn’t have a cellphone back then. He radioed to the nearest town for a tow and said it should be 20 minutes and would be back in half an hour to see how we were. Instead of waiting in the vehicle I got well off the road to wait. Things turned out fine but I had read enough about people getting hit by other vehicles just sitting on the side of the road.

“He took a bus to Florida after it started snowing in Ohio”

“As he walked across America?”

Perhaps he paced up and down the aisle of the bus...

Natural Selection at work.

A needed cleansing of the gene pool.

I did a little more reading about this dude, and I definitely stand by my earlier posting about him being a Darwin Award candidate.

All my life — 59 years — we’ve heard nothing but lies and hysteria from the Left. It’s going to get worse, although it could be argued that this is nothing but the final thrashings of a fatally wounded beast.

G-d forgive me, but I no longer have it in my heart to feel the least bit of sympathy for any of these lunatics.

As things stand now, the Left has a debt to pay to millions of normal Americans who just want to get on with their lives. And a debt in blood to our military, whose efforts to defend us from communism and Islam they have obstructed.

G-d forgive me, but I believe the world is a better place without Baumer and those like him.

Yes only the parts he walked through are included in America - all others are fly over or bus through - you know, where deplorables, gun clingers, and climate deniers dwell in their huts and caves.

unless he was on a freeway or other pedestrian-restricted thoroughfare, he was within his rights to walk lawfully (keeping to the far left or right as per the FL statutes).

too many drivers these days are assholes and need to be riding the bus.

I’ll bet he always wanted to walk across America but he needed to be paid for it. So he decided on climate change as a reason for his walk and to collect money as he went.

Sorry if I don’t sound very sympathetic, I’m not! He died doing what he wanted to do, so RIP.

So, walking without shoes is supposed to raise awareness for climate change. I don’t get the connection. Maybe it could raise awareness for high shoe prices, or the fact that shoes are made in China and fall apart in a few months, or sell athletes’ foot remedies.

Look at me! I don’t have a job. I don’t do anything worthwhile or productive. I don’t have family or friends. I can do a silly-a$$ stunt like walking without shoes. When I arrive at the other end of the country, I’ll be sure to have the media present, so they can take pictures and repeat “climate change awareness” endlessly.

(Dead) Man Walking Barefoot -

This poor man died for a liberal lie.

Yes, but as Nothingburger said, this makes him a perfect Darwin Award candidate - removing his genes from the gene pool. As with all libs, he had some loose screws.

It's one thing to protest and walk across the Country, but quite another to walk down the white lines of a highway. This endangers motorists who swerve to avoid this nut.

I'm not so sure about that. This being GA there are a number of pedestrian fatalities every year. The one who get hit crossing the road (not at intersections) or walking on the road (especially at night) usually don't cause the driver to be charged (unless driver drunk). OTOH where the car is off the road they usually charge the driver.

I think I just found the flaw in his plan.

Reminds me of Barefoot Freddy. He was a huge black man who lived in a small town south of Houston. I heard he had never worn shoes in his life. The calluses on his feet were about an inch thick.

He was walking barefoot to raise money for globull warming and against the use of natural gas.

Of all the things to dedicate your life to...

Yet he rode a bus when it started snowing. We all compromise. But liberals will do it every time.

The question still remains, was the SUV drunk when it hit him?

He also took care of his feet. Lt Dan taught him the importance of that.
