Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg may rescind lawsuits he filed against local Hawaiians in order to fulfill the development of his prospective 700-acre estate after receiving a lot of criticism, namely from locals.
Based on feedback from the local community, we are reconsidering the quiet title process and discussing how to move forward, Zuckerberg said in a statement, according to BuzzFeed News. We want to make sure we are following a process that protects the interests of property owners, respects the traditions of native Hawaiians, and preserves the environment.
Zuckerberg, who is reportedly the sixth richest person in the world, was essentially trying to force local residents on the island of Kauai to sell off parcels of property through legal proceedings called quiet title action.
Zuckerberg says that its rather difficult to payout the property owners because land that was granted to families in the mid 1800s has been split among hundreds of descendants.

The impression I got was that he already bought the land and now brought a Quiet Title action.
I would NOT want a group of native Hawaiians pissed off at me.....................
LOL, he’s done, and the next we hear he’s going somewhere else. If you piss of the locals in Hawaii, you’re done for...
On what legal grounds is he filing lawsuits?
IMO, he’s a thieving little prat with no couth or provenance other than a shitload of money.
I think eventually Zuck will become one of the most hated men in the world.
The fact that Sheryl Sandberg is apparently seeking the 2020 Democrat Nomination has NOTHING to do with this, I’m sure. /s
Do they still have "Kill Haole Day" there?
What a selfish piece of excrement he is. Everything is about HIM. What right does he have to put hundreds or thousands of people already there off their land?
Zuckerface is getting a lot of bad publicity and he does not want to endanger his golden goose, Fecebook.
Zuckerberg needs to ownership of that crap.
There needs to be a Freedom-From-Zuckerberg Act.
One click to make a person's profile and personal data disappear and NOT be usable by anyone.
In certain places....................
Well since you cannot “own” land in Hawaii unless you are a native Hawaiian, he is just paying a lot of rent.
For a supposed smart guy, he is pretty stupid, plus the folks on Kauai are pretty damned stubborn about development and messing with the way things are, he was going to lose.
The first thing a reasonable person should do is to consider the merits of and improvement by and offering such as Zuck provides in Facebook.
I’ve said here what I think about Facebook before. Out of deference to those misguided enough to succumb to it I won’t repeat it. I’ve never signed up for it, nor intend to. My life is complete enough without it, frankly.
But I DO agree with you; someone who has made the mistake of becoming entangled with Facebook should be offered the option to erase themselves completely from its grasp.
Which usually means his security people came and told him they could not protect him from a well armed..........
Worse than Trump? LOL!
As I understand it, no one was on the land. A quiet title action is an attempt to get a legal determination of who owns the land. The land he purchased is clouded with all sorts of antique property laws that cloud the title. It appears that the land, though undeveloped and unoccupied, may technically have thousands of people claiming an interest in the title because they are descendants of the original Hawaiian people. Unless you want spurious lawsuits bothering you for decades on end, you bring a quiet title action so you know with whom you need to negotiate. There is no indication Mr. Facebook is kicking people out or not intending to fairly compensate the legal owners. This is an example of journalism painting a situation in the worse possible light and letting imagination supply the omitted details. Visions of poor indigenous peoples being forced off the land they have lived for generations is an illusion.
I am no fan of Zuckerberg but he is proceeding in a fair and legitimate way to quiet title to his land.
