The following is what I heard on an NPR (National Public Radio) broadcast this morning, sometime in the 8:30 - 9:15 am EST hour. (Wish I could post a transcript of this NPR segment, I don't know if NPR eventually posts either transcripts or podcasts, but if they do I don't believe it will be posted this soon.)
The "Takeway" program's host said he heard from an Evangelical pastor (not named) in Pennsylvania that
[paraphrased] many evangelicals there voted for Trump on the assumption that God would "eliminate" President Trump and install Mike Pence in his place
The word "eliminated" is an actual quote. The host did not qualify or explain his meaning in any way.
Delusion runs deep on The Left
So the NPR listeners are supposed to take the quote from a single pastor - and not even knowing what that pastor actually means when he says he knows “many” who share the reported view - and from that one quote extrapolate it to mean it is the opinion of all “Evangelicals”.
That’s how the media works because they know most people do not process media supplied information beyond the labels thrown into that information. Most do not ANALYZE what is said, break it down, process it through their own questions and realize how dramatically few the pastor who was quoted could have been speaking for. Most will get the “Evangelical” label, assume it is relevant to all “Evangelicals” and NPR knows they will have done their job spreading that meme.
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. For the one in authority is Gods servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are Gods servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.
-Romans 13:1-5
NPR can have their free speech to spout lies and fake news, just not at taxpayer expense.
**Evangelical speaking here. I voted for Trump. Let me repeat myself, I voted for the top of the ticket, I voted for Trump.
Am I happy he picked Pence? Yes I am. Do a I think that Pence would be as effective as delivering the changes this country needs to survive? Sadly, no.
I do not want anything to happen to Trump.**
This. Pence is too nice to get a lot of stuff done, and we would hear non-stop about the Theocracy.
No, that sounds like the die-hard Cruzers, a very small subset of evangelicals as evidenced by just how badly Cruz was trounced by Trump in every single heavily evangelical state primary.
And as someone posted above, it implies that practically everyone hates Trump, even backward Christians (who cling to their guns and religion) who were duped [/s] into voting for Trump.
This isn’t about kooky “evangelicals”. This is the Left grasping at any straw that lets them believe there might still be a way for Trump to be removed from office. Even if it’s as weird as this “evangelical” thing, the idea that there might still be a way for Trump to not be President is appealing.
Wait a few more DNC Presidents, they will justify sending us away in cattle cars. That lady demanding that guy to change seats on the airplane is good evidence that they think we are not worthy.
“...many evangelicals there voted for Trump on the assumption that God would “eliminate” President Trump and install Mike Pence in his place.”
What?? These people are retarded.
When will Trump cut this funding?
In the general election I gladly voted for Trump. I pray for his health and safety every day. (And as a sidenote, for the last 8 yrs I prayed for Obama's destructive efforts to fail - but never, ever prayed or even wished for any physical harm to come to Obama.)
You’re not one of the die-hards, you’re grounded in reality.
WRONG!
OMH
Can anybody clue me in as to whether Trump has mentioned defunding NPR and other “art” my tax money unwillingly supports? (Because I’ve noticed he keeps his campaign promises :))
NPR would never report a similar story about any Democrat.
DEFUND PBS/NPR NOW!
Democrats a death cult? The ? is/s
Yes and I think NPR is joining a list of media outlets, tweeters and bloggers who are attempting to "normalize" the idea that Trump must -and will- be removed.
