The United States is often described as “a nation of immigrants.” That’s certainly true. But a more accurate statement might be that we’re “a nation of immigrants who overcame intense hostility to immigration.” (If you’re really cynical, you might add, ” . . . and then showed hostility to future waves of immigrants.”)
President Trump is expected to sign an executive order halting the admission of Syrian refugees into the United States. He’s also expected to cancel visas from a curiously curated list of majority-Muslim countries. (It doesn’t include Saudi Arabia, for example.) The order would be consistent with Trump’s campaign rhetoric and general fear mongering on the right that Islamic State fighters are posing as refugees to get into the country. For actual Syrian refugees, the policy is exceptionally cruel. Imagine surviving the terrors of the Syrian civil war, only to then be denied asylum because politicians say you’re indistinguishable from the people who were trying to murder you.
It’s worth pointing out again that this isn’t a new story. It is an all-too familiar one.

Why is NO ONE pointing out that Jews do not bomb or behead people? And they didn’t back in the 30-40’s either! There is a percentage of Muslims who do and we have to root them out!

Fearing a few nazi infiltrators might be among them was not a sufficient concern. In fact, having ethnic German speakers and even German army veterans here would have been a great resource for us during the war.
The left does not like Christians, and the ONLY reason they embrace Islamic refugees is because they’re at war with Western culture and Christianity. Something the left hates too.

You are correct, and plain and pure antisemitism, besides general unwillingness to import people in a still-depressed economy is the root of the refusal to take Jews in 1935-41.
There was no prospect of Nazi infiltration until after the US committed to the alliance in 1940 (convoys, lend lease, etc., when the US was just a figleaf away from joining the war.

Well, it’s true that FDR and his gang worked VERY hard, to demonstrate by actions taken and not taken, that our war with Germany was not about the Jews, had nothing to do with the Jews, and that CERTAINLY our decision to prioritize Europe and allow a stalled meatgrinder in the Pacific was not influenced to any degree BY Jews or FOR Jews.
Those are facts.
They also have nothing to do with the current situation, except that there is a certain solipsism about Hitler and the Jews so that anyone who is disliked is “actually Hitler” and any policy that is good for America is “another Shoah”. As the actual victims and their children disappear from the stage of History, this type of solipsism is becoming much less relevant, and, to the extent that the State of Israel has been actively desiring the overthrow of Assad, is really a kind of chutzpah.
Obama, the Turks, and the Saudis made the decision to overthrow Assad and in so doing recruited Al Qaeda to do the dirty work. They have killed half a million Syrians doing it, and Assad is still there.
The best way to help Syrians is to stop killing them so they can go home. This war ends the moment the Turks decide its over. With the fall of Aleppo, the expulsion of Al Qaeda from there, with the departure of Obama, the Turks have decided the game is up and have started cutting their losses. The war there is all but over. The refugees can start going home. Al Qaeda will have to look for another refuge.
All that remains is to rub out ISIS, another Obama disaster. Go after the oil convoys into Turkey, shut off their access to Turkish territory, and they will roll up nicely. Then the Iraqis can go home and rebuild.
