Fellow Republicans Warn Trump Administration: 'Garage Bands' Don't Score Big Hits On the Charts
Washington Examiner ^ | 2.2.17 gmt | By David M. Drucker (@DavidMDrucker)

Congressional Republicans are warning President Trump that a first 100 days that unfolds like his administration's chaotic first 10 days could undermine their agenda and spark a voter revolt.

The White House's lack of communication and coordination with allies in Congress — and even agencies charged with carrying out Trump's executive orders — has left some Republicans frustrated and concerned.

They stand ready to support Trump, even on some of his more politically charged actions, but can't do so effectively if the administration acts secretively and without input.

A House Republican consistently supportive of Trump described the new administration as a "garage band," reflecting his colleagues' anxiety that voters could interpret an ongoing state of chaos as incompetence.

With Republicans controlling all levels of government, they would most likely feel the brunt of that public dissatisfaction, as past presidents, and congressional majorities, have learned in midterm elections past.

Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, the No. 3 ranking Republican in the Senate, urged the White House to avoid distractions and destructive behavior.

"Stay focused," Thune said, during a brief interview with the Washington Examiner. "We want to stay focused."

"We have a specific agenda which we have laid out and which we think the American people are asking us to get busy with," Thune continued. "If the administration can successfully work with us on those things, I think we'll make headway. And, I think we'll find that if we get results the American people will reward that."

The Trump presidency got off to an active start with a flurry of executive orders. That wasn't the problem; many of them involved fulfilling campaign promises that have substantial Republican support. At issue was the execution.

Rodney Dangerfield had a joke he used to tell.

First time sex is awful. I remember my first time. I was scared to death. Everything went wrong. I was alone.

Why in the name of all that is holy do people not understand that something exceptional is going on?

When The Donald entered the presidential race, I took it as a joke. But I figured out by Nov. 2015 that he would win the nomination. And I also assessed that he had a better than even chance of winning the general election.

I had my doubts about how good of a job that he would do as President, and I still think he is needlessly provocative. But I can't ignore what I am seeing with my own eyes. He keeps winning. And I absolutely love just about every substantive decision he is making.

Trump is POTUS because the GOP Establishment has pissed off the base with their ineffectual dithering and the Demoncrats chose a corrupt and incompetent witch to run.

The idiot Pols in DC, academics everywhere, and bloviators that dare call themselves journalists are still in the “this is politics” framework.

DJT and those that he trusts the most are not operating in a politics mode. They are operating as the team taking over a failing company and going for a turnaround. Or the entrepreneur with a start-up. Congress and the DC are obstacles only in the brakes that they are putting on the OODA tempo of operations from the White House. DJT is approaching this much the same way Tommy Franks approached the 2003 Iraq operation. MOVE, MOVE, MOVE, and MOVE some more...always in an OODA cycle.

The best service these a-holes could do the country and their party in the long run is to keep their rubber stamps inked and stay the hell out of the way, while they let the businessman execute his business plan.

Yea, the Republicans aren’t accustomed to an administration that gets things done and wins. They are confused because Republicans are supposed to be capitulating by now.

My first thought was the black keys. Seems like most of their platinum albums were recorded in a basement.

With the exception of Dino,Desi & Billy, I would posit that all the best selling bands, past and present, can be classified as “garage bands”. They didn’t start out playing standing room only gigs at Carnegie Hall.

At any rate the professional politicians just displayed their elitist, our-of-touch attitude yet again with this dumb remark.

“”Actually if you look at the history of the Billboard charts a LOT of garage bands charted.””

WOW - did this writer never hear of the Beach Boys? I’m afraid that’s the limit of my knowledge on ANY bands later than 1940-50 but I’m sure there are many more.

That’s like saying computers will never capture the interest of the public since they were first thought of and built in someone’s garage!

“”and I still think he is needlessly provocative””

I agree with your post and particularly that phrase...I read in a magazine today in a doctor’s office that Ivanka sits back and watches him and reins him in when she thinks it’s necessary. I think he listens to her too! Such a “sexist” - his best advisors are FEMALES - Oh! No!

By the way where did all the bimbos go who worked so hard to derail his campaign? Where’s Gloria Allred? Back in her cave until the next juicy story?

A closer reading looks like “garage band” was said by a Republican. Well, we know they aren’t all geniuses either!

Sorry I hadn’t read better....

As one who grew up playing in bands, almost every major band STARTED OFF as a “garage band”. They need to get a life, or find out what they’re talking about.
