German Chancellor Angela Merkel trails Social Democrat Martin Schulz by 16 percentage points in a poll released Thursday.
Schulz would receive 50 percent of the votes if Germans got to pick a new chancellor this weekend. Merkel who is seeking a fourth term after opening the borders to more than one million refugees received support from 34 percent.
The good news for Merkel is that her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) remains the largest party with 34 percent support, down three from January. The Social Democrats gained eight points and is now within striking distance at 28 percent just six behind CDU.
Merkels hopes of securing a fourth term as chancellor in September rely on CDU remaining the largest party. The chancellor is usually selected from the most popular party after a parliamentary vote.
Schulz was nominated as the Social Democratic candidate less than a week ago and has already given the party a huge boost. He is returning to German politics after 23 years in the European Parliament where he most recently served as president.
We are going to make the elections this year a real thrill, Schulz said after getting nominated Sunday. Our party, the SPD, has the ambition to become the strongest political force in the next election. And I have the ambition to become the next chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany,
Volker Kauder, CDUs group leader in the German parliament, recently told Deutsche Welle that Schulzs emergence is natural when someone new steps onto the stage.
Populist party Alternative for Germany dropped three points but remains the third-largest party with 12 percent.
The SDU is also open borders. Only AFD is for limiting the invasion. They usually poll about 8-19%.
The Germans had better vote for the AfD or they will have no future other than as dhimmis under the boot of the Muslim scum brought in by Merkel.
Schulz has a brief window of gain, and then...the public will ask about the immigration policy and he’ll have to grin because he’s got the same policy statements as Merkel.
Am I correct the Social Democrats are liberals? I think many of the smaller parties are left wing, so with Merkel betraying the country Germany has no good choice unless her party dumps her.
In my mind when I call American liberals Eurocrats, I mean they are of the same mind as German socialist democrats.
They want america to be europe
Hillary, Nancy Barack....the whole mess
Of course. The obvious choice for German’s besieged by the murdering, rapist muslim hordes is to replace the odious Merkel with someone who is an ever bigger dhimmi. Every western European nation seems to be suicidal. England is showing a bit of push back but they are far too late in closing the gates.
The half-woman Merkel loathes the country she was elected to lead, just as the half-man Homobama mightily loathed the U.S.A.
What would Hitler do?
Probably write a more virulent form of “Mein Kampf” which is based in Islamic ideas.
Muslims would be very welcome - but not allowed to take away from the Aryan Master Race concept (nor interbreed), even though Arab Muslims consider themselves the Master Race. They would form, as they did once, shock SS troops.
What your seeing now is the result of communist East Germany completely taking over West Germany.
The insane leftist in the east have overrun and overtaken the previous capitalist west.
This does not bode well for Germany or Europe. When their cities go down in flames, the USA will not be helping them rebuild again.
I fail to understand why, other than the 1 in 7 Germans or so who support AfD, they can allow their dark Nazi history to compel them to import . . . more damnable Nazis!
The former East Block, sans Germany, is a bastions of sanity in a sea of European globalist craziness.
Martin Schulz is far more insane than Merkel.
I agree.
It screams "communist".
What? Are they trading in their old Soviet hag for a newer model Marxist?
A Social Democrat isn’t any better for Germany.
Would the Social Democrats be any better?
its a choice among Leftists, Socialists, and Progressives.
Does that include the CSU or is that just the CDU. Because the CSU really should affiliate with the AfD at this point.
