Uber CEO Travis Kalanick says his company is buying plane tickets for stranded drivers now that a federal judge has put a hold on President Donald Trumps ban on travel to the United States by people from seven Muslim-majority countries. Kalanick tweeted Friday night that the head of litigation for the San Francisco-based ride-hailing company is buying a whole bunch of airline tickets ASAP!

“UBER drivers are independent contractors. Isnt this some sort of an unfair compensation for all the Uber drivers who are not Muslim and traveling?
Seems like grounds for a class action lawsuit.”
Uber walks the line between contractors and employees. All they need is for the IRS to declare their contractors are employees and the company will implode. Right now they have no need to comply with literally thousands of local, state and federal employee regulations. They run the risk with this action that they might suddenly have “employees.”
I just incorporated and the state sent me a letter that I am required to purchase an $85 poster and display one at every facility. The poster tells me my rights as an employee even though I have no employees. The poster must be prominently displayed. That would be in every vehicle. (Yes, of course it’s another hidden tax.)
How much plus interest will these drivers have to pay back ?
Any driver that has to be cleared by this judges ruling need not try to pick me up.
If there is ever a CEO who needs to buy a clue, it’s this guy.
So, these people land at their destination but can’t leave the airport. Where is Uber going to fly them TOO? Back home? Yea Uber!
That was my first thought. What are the logistics? If they are stranded somewhere by the ban it isn't in this country. Where does the plane ticket send them? Once they get on the plane, do they have to jack it themselves to get back here?
Didn’t you read the headline?
What’s worrisome about the attitude toward the refugees, is most don’t see anything wrong with bringing them in.
Beside the fact they come from terrorist countries... there are added problems.
Bringing them in here or letting them cross the border and thus being illegal... they get free medical, a place to stay, welfare and favored status compared to our veterans or the homeless on the street.
Compare that to what was expected from Europeans in past years.... they had to have a sponsor, they had to have a job waiting for them, and a place to stay. Government furnished nothing... it was up to the new arrival.
Why did things change? Government corruption and changing the time in which they could vote. They used to have to wait 7 years.. today, they take them right to the voting place. Again, why did it change? for votes!
We have to shut this down from the terrorist countries... tear down the mosques, make it illegal to make one’s own foreign cities to live in, .. no running for office and no sharia law in any shape or fashion.
This is not ‘ordinary’ .. it’s the survival of our nation against a people who want to make America theirs
Just deleted the Uber app
Of course I did.
The Uber Drivers bought their Tickets BEFORE Trump’s EO, Uber didn’t.
Maybe the Uber Driver’s only bought One Way Tickets hoping Trump would fulfill his Promise and Uber would feel sorry for them an pony up the bucks for the Return Tickets. LOL
I don’t get it. How many Uber drivers come from Yemen, Iraq, Somalia, etc.?
Who knows? Maybe these people are getting money from their government, maybe they have other jobs. Uber pays bupkis. it barely pays for gas.
I hope Uber realizes....if any of these refugees are terrorists, Uber can be sued for enabling the damages to life and property......including rapes, child molestations, arsons, property destruction, thievery, murders and maimings.
What a bunch of morons. First of all, it’s not a travel ban. Second, even a free ride does not grant you free passage.
So be it. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
If they have that many mooslime drivers, makes me even happier to not use Uber!
I don’t like Uber or their politics, but I don’t see how such a purchase for certain contractors would violate any laws.
.
Uber Traitors!
.
There must lesson learned here for American females traveling alone. Think twice before climbing in a car with an Uber driver. You might get cut short.
Is he providing the cars, too? Where are these “refugee” drivers getting their cars?
