RAF heroes ward off two Russian bombers flying near UK airspace <tr>

RAF top guns scrambled to intercept two nuclear-capable Russian bombers as they flew menacingly towards Britain this morning.

Vladimir Putin’s Blackjack bombers flew within Britain’s “area of interest” but did not enter UK airspace.

The show of sabre-rattling comes just one day after Vlad ordered his air force to be ready for a “time of war”.

The planes are believed to have flown down the coast of Norway before passing the west coast of Ireland at around 11:30am.

I resent your implication that I couldn't be a better quisling apologist, I think I could. I'm not trying to be.

Be that as it may, I don't think your comparison is even close. You will not find any two air forces more integrated in continental defense then the RCAF and the USAF. The vice commander of NORAD is always an RCAF officer.

And, FYI American fighters enter Canadian airspace all the time when not on "joint exercises". And they are welcome to do so because they are either under NORAD command or training. The local municipal airport where I live is an emergency field for US aircraft based in Selfridge Michigan. They land here all the time to familiarize themselves with the field. I love seeing them streak overhead.

Every country should enjoy the same freedom we do but, being realistic, the Ukraine is just not up to being a free nation as we understand it in North America. They will either lean on the west for support or Russia, it is inevitable. So what we have to ask ourselves it this: How far are we willing to go to support a nation that the Russians consider a lost province? Would we send ground troops to support a corrupt regime of oligarchs so they can be free of the corrupt Russian regime of oligarchs? Would we use nuclear weapons to back off the Russians? What is the point?

Personally, I wouldn't shed one drop of blood propping up the Ukraine. If the Russians want it that badly, let them have it. What have they to gain? A lot of unproductive hungry mouths as far as I can see. Let the Russians choke on it.

And I think the national integrity of Poland et al is important.

I don't know what Putin thinks and what he doesn't think. I know he comes from a very backward and extremely paranoid national mindset. My first wife, although born in Canada, was Ukrainian and seriously, they do not think like we do. Their paranoia is palpable and omnipresent, you cannot wring it out of them. I don't think Putin is any different.

Thanks for the mention. I can certainly understand how the Ukrainian mindset could be so affected. I am sorry to know someone close to you was raised in that environment. I have always felt a sense of camaraderie with those folks. It’s part of the reason why I am every reluctant to see the Russian populace once again cut off from us, at least the ones who like America.

I see Putin as somewhat differently than the mindset you seem to. Let me run this by you.

People in Eastern block nations were under the thumb of the U.S.S.R. and their oppressive governments. I can see why they would adopt a paranoia complex.

Putin being in the KGB leads me to wonder if he doesn’t have the mindset of the oppressor rather than the oppressed.

He seems to exhibit that mindset to me.

The KGB could also be a very problematic place to work too, if purges came about. I still see Putin as more of an oppressor, but you may be right about him too.

I just don’t know.

Best wishes to you all.

I am with you. It is not worth any American blood. Of course, neither the ones that are clamoring for us to do something nor their families would be among those shedding the blood. /p>

Let me share one anecdote that illustrates my point. This incident took place in the early 1980's. My Ukrainian father in law had lived and worked in Canada for 35 years at that point and he could read, write, and speak English.

He had a house that was on the final approach to Detroit City Airport and it was a lot busier then. There was heavy passenger aircraft traffic overhead all the time. One day we both looked up at a plane and he said "American reconnaissance plane". HE WAS SERIOUS. I could not talk him out of it. Besides the fact that it was a civilian aircraft I mentioned that anything the Americans were interested in seeing could be observed on the ground as travel between the two countries was free. He stuck to the belief that every plane flying over his house was an American reconnaissance plane.

You have no idea how these people think. Paranoia is in their genes.

Meanwhile, UK and EU allow islam invaders in by land and sea and air. Then pays them welfare while they pinch off more islam soldiers.

Yeah, keep looking at Russia.

As Russian termites go, Vlad is nice, kindly, and even handed. You don’t want him replaced by a Stalin or Khrushchev. The Russian people like strong rulers, and dislike weak ones like 0bama or Clinton.

You may not like what Putin does, but from a Russian point of view he is right on and so very popular.

He lost that vote of confidence when he invaded the Ukraine and annexed Crimea.

I get to comment if I support him or not, trust him or not.

It’s a figurative vote.

Not buying it. He soiled himself in public.

It’s over from there.

If he wants to make amends, he can pull out of the Ukraine and Crimea, leave the sovereign territory of the Ukraine.

Sorry, but your vote does not count in Russia - you just have an opinion.

He does not want the ME muslim hordes in Russia - there are enough problems with the Chechens and others. Russia needs a warm water port and the Crimea is it. Also, the Ukraine has long been a satellite of Russia - same language same heritage. If you don’t like it, then go and fight against them.

Oh, so in your intellectual prowess it’s okay for Russia to take Crimea because they need a warm water port. Good grief.

The Ukraine is a sovereign nation. Your opinion doesn’t count either.

History counts ... Crimea has never been a sovereign country until recently. Ukraine has only had a very short history of sovereignty also. Both ‘countries’ have long been dominated by one power or another - get over it.

I am over it. The Ukraine is a sovereign nation, and Crimea was part of it’s territory.

You get over it.

I love how you twist reality into some dream state so you can advocate for Putin’s treachery as if it was the only good thing to do.

Blah!

I missed this earlier, and I didn’t mean to imply that the paranoia wasn’t real. I accepted how you described it. I am sorry some folks you know were adversely affected by life in the Ukraine.

Could it have anything to do with this news of October 27 ?

Britain to send hundreds more troops to Russia border as Cold War tension escalates across Europe

It appears that former President Obama also sent US forces to the Russian border before this flight occurred.
