Interestingly, this was the one part of his executive order that was not struck down by the lawsuits filed in Washington state and Minnesota.
There have already been 34,225 refugees enter the U.S. in fiscal 2017, meaning about 16,000 more are allowed to enter between now and Oct. 1. The vast majority of them, 77 percent, are coming from four of the seven countries listed in Trump’s executive order – Syria, Somalia, Iraq and Sudan.
By cutting the ceiling to 35,000, Trump would effectively end refugee resettlement for the rest of the fiscal year extending over the next seven and a half months. That would allow his administration to decide on a better vetting system and determine how high to set the ceiling for fiscal 2018.

So why didn’t Trump and his team do that? It is less straight-forward and maybe that is why.
Now he can cap all refugees at 35k, then issue EOs to allow certain countries to exceed the limit - don't think the courts can stop that.
Yeah — seems like a good idea to me. I have been in the camp and just shutting down immigration for a while.
The courts have no ability to enforce their decisions and they presume an authority that FAR exceeds what the framers intended.
Since Obunghole has already done so and precedent has been set - ignore them. Rather than soften the blow to the left I say kick them in the teeth. In the long run I think this approach might lessen the chance for civil war rather than increase it.

A couple of bills are being proposed to limit H1-B visas, one would cut the number in half, the other would require H1-b visa holders to earn at least $120k - most companies won’t pay that much for a H1-b, so it would essentially shut it down.
Just take their free money away.....NO food stamps, housing money or benefits.................period. They ether have to take care of themselves or leave
As per the UN Refugee convention, we should only be open to refugees from Canada, Mexico and Caribbean Islands. Everyone else is supposed to go somewhere else. The law says first safe country. Safe has traditionally been understood to mean “not at war.” Safe does not mean perfect.
Refugee status is only mandated by the UN convention as temporary shelter for people in grave physical danger. They are to return as soon as the war or immediate danger has passed.
Here’s the real issue though — We should not use refugees as any kind of political tool, for example, by harboring revolutionary or subversive groups meant to be used against another country or government. Most of our problem refugees and much of our problematic immigration in general has been motivated by those kinds of concerns. That’s the real reason we have Somalis and Afghans and Iraqis and now Syrians coming more than anyone.
The ruling class has the that idea that allowing populations of these peoples to live in our country will form some pro-American vanguard that will go back to the old country and make it a pro-American paradise. That has literally never happened. All of these schemes going back decades to the Bay of Pigs fiasco have failed. Chalabi failed in Iraq. Karzai, a longtime US refugee, failed spectacularly in Afghanistan. Somalis and Syrians are here for the exact same reason as Karzai was. The humanitarian narrative is believed by some in the establishment, but for many, it’s just cover for imperial geo-politicking.
People think that Obama wants refugees from the crappiest places because he hates America, and that’s all true. But we had the same nonsense under GOP administrations with Palestinians and Hmong and Salvadorans who were brought in because they were “anti-communist.” Dubya is actually the dude who dramatically increased the immigration of Iraqis and Afghans as part of the larger war strategy.

I agree and find myself asking why is Syria’s civil war our problem. Muslims live in a Muslim dominated region, and have tens of countries to choose from - something Christians don’t have.
Why does no one ever question the existence of refugee resettlement period?? Why do we HAVE to have vetting?? Why do we HAVE to accept ANY refugees??
The answer is because too many conservatives are still arguing their positions from the Leftist-defined standards. The Left says you MUST accept refugees because all people are equal and if you don’t you are a RACIST. I noticed during the Trump press conference with Japan’s Prime Minister the refugee situation was raised. Trump was reduced to reminding people of his “big heart” and how we would figure out how to VET refugees. Prime Minister Abe quietly dodged the question altogether by saying this was an issue between governments and their people. Rest assured Japan accepts almost no refugees. The Japanese don’t want them and they don’t care what the world thinks. Their government complies with their wishes. Anyone wonder why this is so? If you think about it long enough, you might find the answer. This, like everything else, is about the Left’s ultimate goal-the destruction of Western Civilization-period!

I’ve been trying to convince friends and relatives since 2008 that the ultimate goal of these Marxist-indoctrinated Leftists is the destruction of our Constitutional Republic. The people are not playing games, and all loyal Americans need to realize that we are now in a war for the preservation of our country.
Lower the ceiling to zero!
