Musicians ask Trump for money help after Grammys bashing
Washington Examiner ^ | 2/13/17 | Joel Gehrke

President Trump's political opponents in the music industry would like his help in at least one regard: The laws that govern who makes money off of music.

"The Recording Academy, together with America's music makers, call on the president and Congress to help keep the music playing by updating music laws, protecting music education, and renewing America's commitment to the arts," Neil Portnow, the president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, said during the 2017 Grammy Awards Sunday night.

The appeal demonstrated how the business side of the music industry will have to grapple with the reality of Trump's victory, following an evening dotted with political attacks on Trump from the artists themselves. It was also a savvy attempt to use the spectacle of the Grammys as an opportunity to win grassroots political support for the artists' running fight with the radio companies who broadcast their music.

He should instead give them a tip that could double their incomes: stop pissing on half of their potential audience.

There is one who pissed on half of her potential audience...and she's laughing all the way to the bank

The Yuge jump in sales just proves what I said, the half of the audience that is normally ignored or belittled by the majority of performers represents a Yuge upside...enough to take an artist from #2300 to #1, even if only for a while.

It’s just basic business common sense. Open a diner and only allow people born on odd-numbered days to eat and then see what happens when decide to serve everyone.

We are $20 trillion in debt, and these insular musicians think taxpayer money should go towards the “arts”.

Don’t Americans have a “right” to free music? Everything else is free. They need to just shut up and provide free music to everyone. Hypocrites.

People who support socialist ideas should have those very same socialist ideas applied very heavily to themselves.

John Lennon is looked at by society as the ultimate revolutionary and leftist. However, I think he was more confused and easily manipulated politically more than anything else. He didn’t start writing all of these protest songs and speaking this way until after he met Yoko. I think she was the revolutionary. He had nice things to say about Reagan according to his assistant.

Did he just change his mind? Who knows, I think it was just more political naiveté and confusion amongst other things. In the end, as much as I love John Lennon’s music, if you read about John Lennon the man, he was not someone to be admired.

Are these artists asking for a wall to be built around their music so the radio groups, etc. can’t get in unless they go through a legal process?

That is just awesome. That is a perfect analogy of putting the same shoe on their foot.

Thanks, perhaps we can call the radio stations illegals now. They might agree with our characterization or they might just choose undocumented radio stations so we don’t offend them.

These guys are already paid enough and most of what they produce is crap or even Satanic. They are using their money to support abortion, globalism, leftist violence etc. etc.

Make it harder for them to keep their money. I’m glad that they opened their mouth because this could be a significant vulnerability.

Could also be the drugs, and the perceived “coolness” of being being part of that radical movement, such as our screwed-up culture has been since around that time.

Take away Hollywood and professional musicians/singers and we would not only get along - we would savor the old-time types of “Saturday Night at the local _____(fill in the blank) with musical entertainment by “only known around here” folks.

>>>Don’t Americans have a “right” to free music? Everything else is free. They need to just shut up and provide free music to everyone.

Interestingly, three time Grammy Award winner Chance the Rapper gives all of his music away. He is not signed to a label and has never released a physical album. He releases his music through streaming for free. This is an interesting experiment. So far his career has proven that independent musicians can release chart-worthy albums, tour domestically and internationally and receive Grammy nominations.

"Could also be the drugs, and the perceived “coolness” of being being part of that radical movement"

I can't speak to that. I joined the Marine Corps at 17 at a time shortly after the Vietnam War ended. At that time, everyone was still wearing long hair and smoking dope, etc... was the cool thing to do. When I cut my hair short and told people I had joined, they would ask me why I did that. I've always been in the "uncool" group. Somehow, I feel I've been the rebel most of my adult life because I believed in America. My first presidential vote was for Reagan and proud of it.

The left is too stupid to understand that Joy's surge in sales is due to conservatives being pissed about our views being oppressed.

The left screams, shouts, stomps their feet and physically attack people who oppose them.

The right peaceably assembles and supports those we agree with.
