CBS anchor John Dickerson: Press ruined its reputation 'on its own'
Washington Examiner ^ | 2/17/17 | Eddie Scarry

Posted on 02/17/2017 7:34:04 AM PST by markomalley

John Dickerson, anchor of CBS's "Face the Nation," disagrees with reporters who say President Trump is eroding the national media's credibility.

In a radio interview Friday, conservative host Hugh Hewitt referred to the previous day's press conference at the White House, in which Trump laid into the news media and told reporters in the room that the public cannot trust them.

"But that one comment, they don't trust you anymore, is a summation of where we are in America, because I really do think Manhattan-Beltway elites have lost the country," Hewitt said. "They've lost it."

Dickerson agreed.

"Yes, it's true, and it's not because of anything obviously Donald Trump did. The press did all that good work ruining its reputation on its own, and we can have a long conversation about what created that," Dickerson said.

"Part of it, though, is what you mentioned about the local weather report, which is to say a lot of hysterical coverage about every little last thing that doesn't warrant it," he added.

After Thursday's press conference, which lasted more than an hour, many in the media said Trump's broadsides against the press were hurting the country.

"This not a laughing matter," NBC "Meet the Press" anchor Chuck Todd said on Twitter after the conference. "I'm sorry, delegitimizing the press is unAmerican."

The fact that the hate filled “journalist” Bernstein who made crass, disgusting comments about Trump’s wife and continues to work at the Times tells you all you need to know.

I got to see this even as a teenager and young twenty something (before my formal conversion to conservatism).

Once or twice in a hockey season back in the 1980s and early 1990s, the sports pages would feature articles about the remaining helmetless players in the NHL (ones like Rod Langway, Al Secord, Doug Wilson, Guy Lafleur, and others) and make remarks about how outdated and stupid they were for still playing bareheaded. However even then, you could see how much the problem with stickwork and cheapshot related offences was getting worse and worse each year because of the headgear encouraging such behaviour.

Journalism students have long had a reputation of wanting to become journalist not because of a love for telling the truth or investigation or writing but because they wanted to make the world a better place ... and a better place was seemingly invariably a more progressive one.

This has been a slow motion train wreck with warning signs that the wheels were coming off at least as early a Cronkite announcing defeat in Vietnam.

If you throw a rock over the fence into a pig pen, the pig that squeals the loudest is the one that got hit.

Yesterday pigs were squealing all over the news networks and social media.

[As for President Trump’s presser, a thing of beauty is a joy forever.]

Don’t laugh! This is not a laughing matter!!!! Chuck Todd tweeted so.

Whether the issue is homosexual marriage, police shootings, global warming, or others, they take positions and slant their “news” coverage, to present a point of view that the liberal view is “correct”.

And it washes down to a very patronizing worship of all that is not European-American. It’s anti-logic and bigoted with extremely low expectations.

You can even go back to Edward R. Murrow taking it upon himself to kneecap Joe McCarthy.

McCarthy had issues, but this was likely the first time a member of the media took it upon himself to become beat cop.

You hit the nail on the head!

People who go into journalism tend to be liberal to start with, and tend to be on a crusade. They want to change the world.

In short, they are best described as “advocacy” journalists, because they aren’t content to report the news. They want to slant the news, to convince us that we should be liberal.

Just think about news reporting in recent years on various subjects.

They reported stories on alleged hardships faced by a homosexual because we didn’t allow homosexual marriage.

They lamented how tens of millions didn’t have health insurance, so there was an urgency to pass Obamacare.

They reported hardships faced by illegal aliens facing deportation or other consequences from their illegal acts.

They report dubious “science” to convince us that global warming is going to kill us all.

They magnify rare police shootings to try to convince us that all cops are racist, and make us think that innocent young black men are being used for target practice by police.

I’m sure there are many other examples, but you get the point. When they report on these stories, it’s always from a liberal point of view.

Chuck Todd said on Twitter after the conference. "I'm sorry, delegitimizing the press is unAmerican."

That is an amazingly blind or purposefully ignorant statement for the purpose of propaganda against the president, when the facts, only have a tiny portion of the US, trusting the media in their own very biased polls...the far left.

All it says is that the MSM is going to ignore Americans concerns, continue to be a propaganda tool for the left, and tells Americans to get real news elsewhere.

The press still didn’t get it. After the presser, they went on a rage and spewed more lies and hatred.

And Americans are laughing at them for essentially turning into carnival barkers.

And this is the bottom line. The loss of trust is on the press’ laps and is the bottom line deal.

I have a eerie feeling that the press trying to force people to believe their bull crap and admire their Obama enormities are an associate to Pizzagate pesophile gangs, because metaphorically, a pedophile gang in particular relies on secrecy and deception of the sort

Journalist students want to be stars like under Nixon. They do not care about the truth or helping, they want glitter and most of them are incompetent writers. As a result they plagiarize from documents offered to them by lobbies and foreign spies, acting as if they were the writers of this crap, just like the Caliphs in the time of Mohammed did to create the hadiths amending the Koran.

There was a time the media would issue a retraction — when they got caught in lies.

This election cycle especially, going back to June 2015, it has been lie after lie after lie after lie. Even when they got caught, they would try to lay blame elsewhere or just ignore the fact that they got caught.

The media ruined their own credibility. They became, and most still remain, propaganda venues of the Left/Libs/Dems/Soros faction. They gave up being ‘news’ vehicles a long time ago.

Recall the stink in 2008 when they claimed THEY were the only vehicle for vetting candidates and not bloggers, forums, etc. Then, the weekend before that election, Brokaw and Charlie Rose had that discussion in which they admitted they did not know much about Obama, his thinking, what he reads, etc. Brokaw and Rose basically admitted the media failed at their claimed task — vetting presidential candidates.
