Britain will have to pay a “very hefty” bill to leave the European Union and negotiating a new relationship with the bloc will take years, European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker warned today (21 February).

Prime Minister Theresa May hopes to trigger the Brexit negotiations by the end of March following the shock referendum in June last year. […]

“The British must know — and they know it already — that it will not be at a discount or zero cost,” the former Luxembourg premier said in his hour-long speech. […]

European sources said Brussels could hand Britain an exit bill of up to €60 billion to cover commitments already made by London toward the EU budget. The European Commission has declined to provide any figure until now. …

The same guy who openly and brazenly said “When it becomes serious, you have to lie”. And they give him one of the top jobs in the EU.

Hey Brussells, was that a threat?
That vaguely sound like a declaration of war.

The last time a European Socialist tried to conquer Britain, they responded with thousand plane raids.

Trump can put an instant stop to this talk.

Trump “Try this and there will be zero trade between the EU and the US...and NATO will have to survive without a cent from the US and ALL US personnel will be pulled out”

“Oh, and by the way I insist you re-pay the US for all the aid we have delivered since the beginning of WW2”

Also “We will deny any form of assistance to any nation that does business with the EU”

Speak loudly and wield a huge stick.

That would not scare them, I do not think. They are very strong ideologues. Better to make them question what they claim their “values” to be, and speak the truth on issues that they do not let their people hear.

If Trump said that there would be quite a few people in Brussels in need of a change of clothes.

If Trump shut down trade and started pulling out our troops the Euro would drop like a stone. It would be worth 10 cents against the dollar in just a few days. Italy, Spain, Greece, France, Germany and more would declare they were no longer part of the EU.

It would be the near instantaneous end of the EU.

Jean-Claude Juncker

This turd was the “Prime Minister of Luxembourg,” the Parador of Europe. A “country” you miss if you don’t apply your brakes before leaving any of the countries surrounding it. England needs to kick him off of his elevator shoes!

While the dissolution of the EU would be a good thing, such a rapid collapse has considerable peril.

In 2015 the UK was the second largest net contributor to the EU budget after Germany and the third largest on a per capita basis after the Netherlands and Sweden. The largest recipient on a per capita basis, three times the next closest is, believe it or not, Luxembourg. Surely just a coincidence that Junker is a Luxembogey.

The UK is meant to pay the EU for the privilege of not contributing to the EU budget. What is the quid pro quo ?

Most professional politicians know not to threaten someone whose cooperation they need, and need badly. Britain’s exit from the EU doesn’t mean they’re going to hoist up the entire island and trot off to the antipodes. They’re still going to be there and it is probably better not to alienate a neighbor who one wants to contribute to European collective security and still possesses the financial clout the UK does.
