HOUSTON (AP) -- President Donald Trump has made headlines with his swift action on immigration and vows to deport those living in the U.S. illegally who have a criminal past. Now any immigrant charged or convicted of any offense, or even suspected of a crime, has become an enforcement priority for federal authorities.
The stricter policy has brought new attention to a labyrinth of an immigration system where simply deporting someone is never a simple or time-efficient task. Months, if not years, can pass. In the end, if the case is lost, the immigrant may find him or herself on a bus or plane heading back to his or her home country.
But what exactly happens between the time someone is taken into custody and when they leave the U.S.? Some basics on the court and deportation process:
EXPEDITED REMOVALS
Under current policies, immigrants who are detained within 100 miles of the border and who have been in the country less than 14 days can be deported immediately, without being processed through the immigration courts. If an individual caught along the border makes a claim for asylum, he or she will have their claim reviewed by an asylum officer with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. If the claim is approved, the individual goes through the immigration court process. If not approved, that person joins the other immigrants caught along the border who are usually immediately returned to. . .

AP the term is illegal aliens, not immigrants. They are invaders. Deport them all. Stop the invasion of our country.
We shouldn’t be tying up our courts with foreign nationals who are in our country illegally. If they want a day in court, send them home and they can complain and bring it up to their own courts. There is nothing in the Constitution and we have no laws stating that they have a “right” to be here illegally.
ALL illegal aliens ARE subject to removal.
ALL illegal aliens MUST be committing additional crimes in order to stay here ILLEGALLY.
At the very least they are working illegally or collecting benefits illegally, probably with fraudulent documents.
We should not have to wait until an illegal alien harms or kills someone before they are removed.
Anything the Asspress “explains” will be one sided, agenda driven, and full of lies.

The Chicago INS/ICE is extremely corrupt with bribes, extortion, exchange of sex,political favors and money in exchange for immigration decisions.
The process takes so long because installment payments on the bribe require time. Failure to make a payment results in deportation.
How typical is Chicago of the nation?
The girl arrested in Louisiana on her way home from a protest is getting an expedited departure. She arrived legally from a visa-waiver country, Argentina, as a tourist. That means no right to a hearing, get out.
India is a claimed ally, people, even here on FR, defend them. Well, reconcile that with the fact that India will not accept back Indian citizens that we deport. Where do you loyalties lie? US or India.

If they come across illegally, how can the US know they’ve been here less than 14 days?

The obvious has been forgotten in this country.
And our ex pResident is trying to overthrow the current one.

You don’t have to like us. But don’t bet on a NYer giving up in a fight or not fighting dirty and not doing ANYTHING to win.

Make that 1,000 miles and 3,650 days and I’ll be pleased.
Yeah, so we only deport those that are “bad at illegally entereing the USA”
Ugh, can’t wait for sanity to be restored to this Country.

The remedy: No Indian immigrants allowed, and no green cards or visas to Indians until they change their policy. If they still don’t want to change it, every time we apprehend enough illegal Indians to fill a barge, pull a barge full of them close to an Indian port and then propel it towards them.

How about explaining how their immigration here is illegal and that they are placing burdens upon not only tax paying citizens, but non tax paying citizens as well.
`rats no longer have their boy Barry ordering the Library of Congress to change references to aliens--as set forth in federal statutes--to "immigrants". That fell flat. No more "down the ol' memory hole" for the party of treason. Our uninvited foreign guests skipped doing all the things our immigration laws require ..... They are here illegally. They are aliens. For thinking people, that makes them ....
