I agree that it was a critical and good move for Trump to get this stuff tweeted out before his team managed to smother it.
But I think you overestimate the ability of his team to keep his communications and computers from being tapped—the best national governments and corporations can’t stop that at this point, let alone Trump’s personal security team.

This is the best election ever, and it is not even close.
As to whether or not Comey actually asked the DOJ to dispute Trump's wiretapping claims, it is also plausible that he didn't. I thought Comey might have merely passed a false story about his reaching out to the DOJ to a leaker at the FBI knowing it would reach the NY Times or WaPo.
In doing so he would accomplish 3 things. He would spread a false cover story about his actual complicity with Trump and Session to the Times/WaPo, he would confirm the identity of a leaker, and he would be able to connect the leaker with a particular media outlet.
Sometimes, of course, it is better to leave a leaker in place because of his usefulness in disseminating false news.

The democrats and the nevertrumper are all tangled up in this ball of yarn.
Their stories are grossly contradictory but one thing is common, they’re all saying [then] President Obama did not order wire-tapping of Trump, but few are arguing that Trump wasn’t tapped by somebody in government. Even stories of the British intelligence had him tapped. Oestenisbly for the CIA and it was suggested that these ‘courtesy’ taps are not infrequent. CIA wants to tap a U.S citizen, but they can’t. So they ask a friendly foreign intelligence agency to do it for them.
Interestingly, the progressives operation loop appears to be the following.
- Keep and foment violent protests.
- The immediate left keeps churning leaks and allegations and feeds these stories anonymously sourced to a willing and complicit media.
- The far far left then waits until Trump say’s something apparently confusing and then the chorus chimes in on Trump’s mental health and pushing the Trump is ‘Queeg’ from The Cain Mutiny.
- Rinse and repeat until successful.

Comey plays into this somehow. I haven’t figured out how but I’ve wondered since his second press conference on Hillary if he wasn’t on President Trump’s side.
Now with the WikiLeaks release today on the CIA, it seems a clear indictment of the U.S. intelligence agencies and the previous administration.
