This appeared on my FB news feed. What is it with these people? Inventing racism in the senator's comments where absolutely none existed (he just simply said that ones from inner city areas might be more suited for learning a decent, practical trade as opposed to being in university).

A nation without plumbers and electricians would be as worthless as one without brain surgeons. One needn’t go to college to make at least a decent (if not fantastically wealthy) living.

If you can’t find real ‘racism’, then make it up.

This is the Commie MO for the past 30 years - at least.

They are liars every single one of them.

Strange, I thought it was the dems who try to keep the blacks uneducated and on welfare so they can control the votes better.

It is disingenuous for both The Black Home School and the Pittsburgh Courier to misquote/misstate/revise his exact quote - not bothering to even print it, apparently - brackets and insertions, omissions and paraphrasing is not “quoting.”

I can go a lot longer without a philosopher than I can without a plumber.

"...education is a human right"

Got to admit I stopped reading right there. Victor could use some education himself.

I know many people working in trades, including black men and women, who are making over $100K/yr with only 4 or 5 years experience. It certainly isn't dummy work, either. There is a lot to learn. The problem here isn't racism. It is the negative stigma attached to trade work.

the opportunity to receive a quality education is a human right

Education is neither received nor given.

It is taken by a hungry mind. Almost all the problems with high school and college could be solved by ending compulsory education after Grade 8.

A Journeyman Electrician makes an average of $32.50 an hour or around $70,000 per year BEFORE overtime & Benefits. The average salary for a person with a college degree is $48,000. The AVERAGE Electrical engineer makes around $65,000. The average Business degree holder makes around $52,000.

Perhaps the good legislator is on to something?!

I have been involved in homeschooling for over a decade. I have never heard of “TheBlackHomeSchool.com”, and we have several black homeschooling families in our community.

This web site smells like a liberal gaslighting attempt to look homeschool friendly...but is really there to bash conservatives.

Is there any way to tell how old this site is, who owns it, when it started, etc.?

Actually it is true for most students, irregardless of race. We are sending too many students to college. The result is too many unprepared students who drop out of college and an oversupply of college graduates burdened with crushing debt.

College education has become a racket for the benefit of overpaid and underworked professors and bloated college administrations. Bring back vo-tech for more students. Indeed, how many of the degrees offered in colleges today are really vo-tech programs burdened with unnecessary liberal arts course to justify their presence at a college rather than at a vocational school?

Did he use a qualifier such as "many" black students? Did he say "black and other students with a different range of interests from what is provided in a traditional college education"? Did he humanize the comments by saying stuff like "to aspire to a career which is involved with hands-on solutions and problem solving"? Did he say 'to meet the needs of the community"?

That's how to avoid the racism tag. If he had been asked a specific question about black students or that was the topic of a discussion, non-qualified remarks would be fine, and anything said without the circumstances being described would be out-of-context.

These really aren't trivial things. People notice.
