Daylight-saving time is dumb and we should get rid of it
Business Insider ^ | March 10, 2017 | Dave Mosher

Steel yourself: It's nearly time to turn our clocks forward an hour for the start of daylight-saving time (DST).

This arcane and terrible ritual officially starts on March 13, 2016.

At 1:59 a.m. on Sunday morning, our clocks will wind forward an hour to 3:00 a.m. instead of 2:00 a.m.

That gives us one less hour of sleep and means the sun will rise an hour later than we're used to.

Never once mentioned what I think is most rational and that is to have DST year round.

Share your sentiments...man thinks he is G-d. He controls sun, and all things. Always felt it blasphemy that congress felt the need to attempt this — idea as dumb as destroying our light bulbs!!!!

Actually, it would be a good idea for President Trump to propose this.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 was signed into law by President George W. Bush. It extends the daylight saving time by four to five weeks, depending upon the year, except for Arizona and Hawaii who do not use DST.

But President Trump could make a painless move away from DST, with the agreement of the Republican governors. The Democrat governors of blue states would probably stomp their feet and refuse to get rid of DST, making them look like fools.

“Which just goes to show that Democrats prefer to live in the darkness.”

I’m against DST because it makes the birds start chirping an hour earlier.

I've got about 6000 sparrows (hyperbole) in a hedge. Sounds like a school auditorium full of middle school girls. I'm in real trouble.

The neighborhood Peregrines eat everything but the sparrows.

The only thing more ridiculous is Standard Time. I’ll take the light at the end of the day rather than the beginning. Time to move beyond the pastoral.

Even better: Daily daylight saving time. Every night at 2 AM set the clock back by one hour. Then at 2 PM set it ahead. I get my hour of sleep and a lot of evening sun. If that works out we can even try two hours instead of just one.

Yes, if that last question example is taken by itself rather than the progression of the three preceding it.

I think the problem with its premise is our connection with SATs and the like, frankly.

The correct definition of DST should NOT be, Daylight Saving Time but, Daylight Stupid Time.

You see, under FDR, when he Declared us the Arsenal Of Democracy, with lots of Farm work Proudhon, ship dock work ad ship building, plane and tank manufacturing with movement of much of that to Britain, Australia, and New Zeland. He put us on War Production Time and advanced or clocks by 1 hour.

NONE, of the presidents that followed FDR, canceled WPT. Hence, we are now, as of this morning, a total of 2hrs ahead of solar time.

See why DST is Daylight Stupid Time?

I’ll tell you one thing. My cat Tink effing hates it. She don’t care. Her internal clock and tummy are irrevocably connected and she lets me know it. :0)

Whatever her time 4AM is on her bioclock is when I’m supposed to get up and shower and brush my teeth and then proceed to the kitchen to drop out a little handful of treats on the floor for her. She won’t take anything less.

In the spring and early summer I get up with the birds. Can’t sleep, they’re so noisy. You have falcons? I see maybe a couple per year in Michigan.

Last year I was being stalked by a yellow bellied fly eater. It kept pecking on my windows, including my bedroom while I was sleeping. And don’t even get me started on crows.

If we like the extra hour of daylight in the evening then fine lets just set the time for it that way as a default and leave the damn clocks alone.

No, it is the opposite—DST is what should be year-round.

It is crazy to have kids going to school so early anyway, since it goes against their natural sleep rhythms and their parents’ typical work schedules.

They should be in school for fewer hours, but taught more effectively and not indoctrinated with stuff for hours while they’re there anyway.

Yep. They’re noisy as hell. Looks like a mini Game of Thrones around the church steeple.
