Bharara refused to return phone call from Trump citing DOJ rules

Prosecutor Preet Bharara was fired by the attorney general a day after he refused to return a phone call from President Trump, a report alleges.

An assistant to the president of the United States called Bharara’s office Thursday, saying the president wanted to talk, but Bharara refused citing Department of Justice rules, the New York Times reported.

On Friday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions notified all 46 federal prosecutors, who were appointed by President Obama and still active, to leave. Bharara was one of those asked to resign.

When Bharara got the call Thursday, he informed an aide to Sessions that he wouldn’t be able to talk to the president because of the rules. He then called Trump’s assistant to say the same.

It is unknown what Trump wanted to talk to Bharara about.

I have never been convinced that Bharara was/is anything other than a Democrat legal shark. The nominal DiBlasio and Coumo "investigations" struck me as useful camouflage, and the handling of D'Souza seemed like a 25% tint of what was done to Scooter Libby.

As of right now, I see no reason to change my viewpoint.

What political theater.

Does the same “rule” prevent ex-presidents from talking to AG’s investigating their spouses?

I thought he had met with Trump some time ago. Was that before Inauguration and did the “rule” mean he couldn’t talk to him afterward?

Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney who was fired today was also the attorney who brought charges against conservative activist and author, Dinesh D’Souza back in 2014. D’Souza was sentenced to 5 years probation and 8 months in a community confinement center.

Does his refusal to talk indicate Trump is target or subject of an investigation?

“In 2005, Bharara moved to Washington, D.C., to serve as Senator Charles E. Schumer’s chief counsel on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. He also worked as staff director for the Senate Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts, and helped lead the Senate’s investigation into the firing of several U.S. Attorneys during President George W. Bush’s second term,” said Columbia University in a bio of Bharara.

“President Barack Obama nominated Bharara to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York post in May 2009. The Senate unanimously confirmed his nomination, and he was sworn into office that August.”

(snip)

Donald Trump made headlines when he accused the Obama administration, without providing proof, of wiretapping Trump Tower in Manhattan, an extraordinary claim. It’s not clear, though, whether that played a role in the about-face on Bharara.

Bharara is a wealthy man, despite his years of government service. “Bharara was an early investor in Quidsi, the parent company of Diapers.com, which was co-founded by his brother, Vinit,” reported BuzzFeed. “When Amazon acquired the company for $545 million in 2011, Bharara earned his cut,” reportedly over $1 million.

He did a political hit job on D’Souza, and he’s investigating the commie mayor DeBlasio.

He’s investigating DeBlasio now. Conventional wisdom would state that if he went after the conservative he would save the commie.

Good move. Trump needs to get rid of more. IRS should be next.

I don’t see how that matters. He is not a natural born American, is he not? I’ve heard good things and bad from both sides about him. All I really know is that he was nominated by Obama and confirmed by a no-ball quisling Senate.

Terrible journalism. If the reporter won’t cite the “rule” then there really is no point to this story.
***********************************************************

That is because the story HAS no point. They are attempting to substitute “protocol” for law and they are very different

Protocol is set way of doing things. Like a list starting with step 1 and working your way through.

Law is where your governed by a set of rules that MUST be followed under penalty.

He also directed an attempt to acquire the real names of anonymous commenters on the Reason.com magazine site. The reasons for such acquisition are unclear.

One poster who somehow violated Bharara's sensibilities posted nothing more offensive than "There's a special place in Hell for (whoever)".
