Shock: 'Experts' recommend high fat diet for curing a significant disease
The American Thinker ^ | 03/15/17 | Thomas Lifson

Posted on 03/15/2017 5:44:07 AM PDT by pgkdan

The ideology of Progressivism rests on the notion that “experts” should be given free rein to guide the populace in proper behavior, by persuasion if possible, but by governmental law and regulation if necessary. These “experts” could inform the disinterested administrators of a state powerful enough to impose itself on the behavior of the masses too ignorant to chart a personal course for themselves.

The folly of this view is nowhere exposed more nakedly than in the matter of personal eating habits. The advice of the “experts” has been so frequently wrong that the federal government’s dietary guidelines have repeatedly been revised. The “food pyramid” that recommended lots of grains is long gone, replaced by something called MyPlate from the US Department of Agriculture. Pushed by Michelle Obama, of course -- formerly our national food scold, and impetus for more thrown-away school cafetria food than anyone in the nation's history.

***Snip***

As a result, “fat-free” and “low fat” foods have crowded supermarket shelves for decades, even as we get fatter and fatter. I have learned to skip them, not only because they don’t satisfy the palate or the sense of hunger, but because I worry about the health effects of whatever is used to substitute for fat. Does it make sense that something the body craves, that nature supplies in abundance and that traditional cuisines from around the world use, is totally bad?

I've been on a low carb, moderate protein, high fat way of eating for about 10 months. I've lost 100 lbs, have normalized my out of control T2 diabetes and have significantly reduced my cholesterol. And I am never, ever hungry. A year ago I couldn't go 10 minutes without thinking about food.

The “food pyramid” that recommended lots of grains ...

Lots of grain - what's fed to animals in a feed-lot to fatten them up.

How could any rational person think that would not lead to fattening-up in humans?

The "food pyramid" was the result of an unholy alliance between the animal-rights activists and the Gaia-worshippers.

I’m shocked that the experts could be so wrong about something. /s

They were wrong about cholesterol too. Statins are bad.

It was written by a lawyer for Archer Daniels Midland. Big Grain got the exact result they paid off the Senate for.

I’ve known for many years that fried pork rinds are better for you than corn chips. And back in the 90’s I did a lot of bike riding. I used nutrition bars that contained a third fat.

The internet, coupled with search engines, has provided an explosion of information to the masses that is like the invention of the printing press on steroids. It is possible to not only find the information you need, but effectively root out the BS from the truth. This applies to everything from politics to diet.

It’s why informed people now eat a lot better and liberal politicians are scared to death.

Both are very good.

Also, for me it almost completely eliminates the need to see a general practitioner MD. I’ve fixed many problems just using the internet.

In a prescient one liner here on FR years ago a Freeper said the Food Pyramid is upside down. I thought about it and researched it, and their are those that would say it is spot on, Protein, a bit of fat and low low carbs. Without getting into the it too deep, being in a room w/ a registered Nutritionist and hear her saying ( not advice to anyone here ) a ratio of 2, 1, 1 was something too shoot for, 2 protein, 1 fat, 1 carb..... Interesting to say the least..

I’m trying an Atkins-style diet right now. The one real benefit is the much reduced hunger pangs every couple of hours!

Here's a good place to start The Art and Science of Low Carb Living

The link goes to Amazon. I'm NOT recommending Amazon, just the book.

” Statins are bad.”

Statins almost killed me. I refused to take them anymore. A couple of weeks ago, I had a stent implanted in my heart and the entire OR crew told me “good for you!” when they saw on my record that I refused statins. The surgeon told me that a lot of people couldn’t take them.

See my post #17. YouTube has a ton of great videos on the topic. Many are posted by a group called Low Carb Down Under. They have a lot of medical people speaking at their gatherings and off er a ton of great information. The Sports Drs. have some amazing stories to tell about their endurance athletes who do the Keto lifestyle.
