By about 3 p.m. Friday, a county morgue in east Ohio was already full — and more bodies were expected.
Rick Walters, an investigator for the Stark County coroner's office, had just left for two death scenes: a suicide and an overdose.
From the road, he called the director of the Ohio Emergency Management Agency to ask for help. He needed more space, he explained — specifically, a cold-storage trailer to act as an overflow morgue.
As with much of the United States, Ohio is in the throes of a heroin and opioid epidemic that shows no signs of abating.

So sad.
They start with pot then move to meth, cocaine, spice, etc. while dabbling with opioids and Benzos. In my area, there is still a general stigma with heroin, but my childhood friend (now 40) OD’d 2 months ago on heroin. He started with pot, then cocaine, then heroin. No Rx drugs.
Thank GOD we now have a Commander in Chief who supports BP and LEO.
Of the one's I know personally who became heroin addicts, all were recreational drug users and all ADD.
May not be a coincidence.

Something about this seems like a load of crap.
The impression they are giving is that prescription drugs are killing people and I think it’s the crap on the street, which is salted with other stuff...
Why would that disproportionately affect Appalachia?
It is sobering and already happening. I cannot believe the large numbers of people that simply do not participate in civilized society. Existing on handout, scamming, not working, not raising their children, ETC. Zombie like as someone else on this thread said, such an accurate description.
Other people are becoming educated, working hard, producing- in most cases successful. Just so many that are not it boggles my mind.
There are I believe 1.04 more female births than males. this is the evolved way to compensate for female deaths in child birth
Sorry for your loss. Narcan doesn’t work well on fentanyl? The fact that fentanyl is 10 times more powerful must be a factor. Vetrinary carfentanil is even worse. I talked to my niece, who is a vetrinarian. She said “carfentanil!? that’s what we used in africa to put wild lions out for treatment!” That’s what they’re dealing with out on the streets.

Have played an unwilling role in this dark comedy too many times. But...it is changing, hence the heroin/fentanyl abuse.

Good question and easy answer: lack of fathers. Youngsters will always break the Ten Commandments. Fathers always limit the damage of youngsters.

The WOD is being fought the wrong way.
Winning is pretty simple.
1) BUILD THE DAMNED WALL. That will dramatically cut the illegal drug trade.
2)If someone is convicted of selling drugs all property is seized. Cash is donated to local charities, physical property is auctioned and proceeds donated to local charities. Strict controls are used to ensure law enforcement does NOT profit from seizures.
3) convicted drug dealers are publicly executed and their bodies are put on public display before being released for burial.
4) doctors who recklessly prescribe pain meds lose their ability to practice, are jailed for a period of time and are barred from any profession that requires licensing. No getting disbarred from medicine then going to law school to become a lawyer.
It won’t be easy at first but in the long run it would work a lot better than what is being done now.
The WOD started as a response to a problem that too many politicians signed on to because it would look good on their resume come election time.
On the dark side some signed on because they saw a way to pad their bank accounts.
Instead of actually helping people politicians pass laws that do nothing but punish the average person who just needs some relief from chronic pain.
I have tried every known affordable method of dealing with my pain.
My current hydrocodone prescription runs out in 30 days. Not sure what I’ll do then.
