Confirm Gorsuch with 51
The Federalist ^ | 3/23/2017 | Grant Starrett

Posted on 03/23/2017 8:16:55 PM PDT by jthomas21

This morning, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced the Democrats will filibuster Neil Gorsuch's nomination to the Supreme Court. If you listen to the media, Republicans will have to use the "nuclear option" to confirm Gorsuch with 51 votes. But the media, as usual, misses the point: Harry Reid already pushed the button and the Senate is a nuclear wasteland.

Yep.

And end the filibuster on everything.

If the Democrats won’t “work across the aisle”, then proceed without them.

Reid promised to go nuclear, but more importantly, Tim Kaine, who fully expected to be VP, he also promised to go nuclear on justices - watch.

Make them do a real filibuster, enough of folding to a threat of filibuster. Let them talk until they can’t talk anymore and then vote.

The grandiosity of the setting’s getting to their brains. We don’t send people to Congress to ‘set the right tone’... We send them to get some friggin work done.

Confirm Gorsuch then move on to the next task. The MSM will hate our guys no matter what they do, so they might as well dance with the ones that brumg ‘em.

Democrats aren’t going to like the way this turns out. Gorsuch is a replacement for Scalia, he’s not going to turn the balance of the court. If the Democrats want to force the nuclear option now over Gorsuch, they’re going to have to deal with the fact that Trump will be able to get his SC nominees approved by a simple majority vote if Ruth Bader Ginsburg or Anthony Kennedy decide to step down in the next year or two.

If there aren’t 60 votes what is the need for a filibuster? The only reason for Schumer to filibuster is either he knows enough Democrats are going to vote with the Republicans or he knows McConnell is going nuclear.

Where in the Constitution does it require 60 votes to confirm an appointment?

“Make them do a real filibuster, enough of folding to a threat of filibuster. Let them talk until they can’t talk anymore and then vote.”

We can’t afford to tie up the Senate with needless BS. This will just hurt us.

There are too many appointments to confirm and not enough time for the part time Congress.

I agree with Levin. It’s not the nuclear option. It’s the American option. Time for the boys in Congress to learn how to market and talk to the American people.

Congress goes into recess next week. Maybe Trump should just make a recess appointment and be done with it.

Republicans used to be terrified at the thought of no fillibuster, having no confidence in their ability to explain their case to the people or to keep on going until the people learned from their mistakes. This caused them to continually quit and run.

The Republicans should stop referring to it as the nuclear option. Whenever the press brings it up, correct them and call it the Reid option.

It’s the ‘constitutional option’ when ‘rats do it, though it’s found nowhere in the Constitution.
It’s only the ‘nuclear option’ when quaking GOP cucks are faced with doing it. And they use the expression themselves. They allow the ‘rats to make the rules and terminology.
