Filibuster Gorsuch, Please
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 3/23/2017 | Staff

Supreme Court: After Judge Neil Gorsuch spent 20 hours demonstrating that he is abundantly qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice, Democrats announced plans to filibuster his nomination. Good luck with that.

By all accounts, Gorsuch put in a stellar performance in his confirmation hearing. Even the New York Times conceded that "if Democrats harbored any hope of raising doubts about Judge Gorsuch among Republicans, they came nowhere close."

But as soon as the hearing ended, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that he was going to filibuster the nomination anyway.

Gorsuch, Schumer said, "was groomed by the Federalist Society and has shown not one inch of difference between his views and theirs."

We understand that Schumer is just trying to appease his party's far-left, Trump-loathing base. But think about this strategy for a minute.

NO, I think I have a better idea.

Have hearings. Lots of hearings. Call Skippy Podesta and his little email buddy and grill them for days on what they meant about “wetworks” and Scalia. Call Weiner. Call Huma. Call Hillary. Call Chelsea. Days and days of Clinton Foundation crime hearings. Ask Chelsea why she said, “Now that Scalia is out of the way, we can do gun control.” Have Mrs. Scalia sit next to whomever is asking the questions.

In the end, the Dems will be delighted to confirm Gorsuch and do anything else the American people ask of them.....

>>That’s an assumption the writer is making that Trump will follow some unwritten law that says you have to give and take appointing justices. BS I say. Trump never gives in .....he fights to win....always

I took it to mean, that if Democrats filibuster this one - a relatively moderate/right justice, the Republicans will use the nuclear option now because they will realize they will filibuster ANYONE; which will then set the precedent for the next 2-3 justices that Trump/Pence pick in the coming years.

Schmuck Schumer is such a slimy scumball

I was just thinking this morning that it would be great if he disappeared and was never heard from again.

“We might as well push the button now.”

I wholeheartedly agree. Trump is the last Republican President. He may be the last white male president. I say go for it now like there’s no tomorrow.... Playing nice will not make it better when the commies take over.

I think McConnell is ready to take the nuclear option. I worry about McCain, Graham, Murkowski and Collins.

Going with just 51 votes now will clear the path for using the same process when the next SC opening happens. The next one may well be a lib. POTUS DJT naming a conservative to replace Ginsberg (please!) Will be a much bigger fight. Easier to use 51 when then, if the precedent is set now.

Nuke them.

It doesn’t matter who Trump nominates, the ‘Rats are going to filibuster. Need to let the ‘Rats know they don’t mean sh$t in the Senate. The Republicans have the numbers, use them. Use them in Judge confirmations, use them in health care law, use them in all votes in the Senate.

The worst thing that was ever done in my opinion was go to popular elections for US Senators.

Tell me about it, my Senators are Merkley and Wyden, Merkley is the instigator in the filibuster, he is so dumb. When I wrote him about repealing the ACA, he wrote back "just wait until the single payer option, that will solve all your healthcare problems."

I wrote Wyden, pleading with him to wake up the the NSA raw data gathering. Remember he is the one that Clapper lied to under oath about the NSA and data collection. I explained a month ago that Mike Flynn's name was exposed while a private citizen, he wrote back, "we are going to get to the bottom of the Russia/Trump connection".

Senators are now only at the beck and call of large urban voting pools now. The rest of the states’ interests don’t matter to them. That is why it is wrong, just as is the popular vote for a US President. The collective regional interests, mores and goals of the country (or state) as a whole are ignored in favor of some very tightly packed rats nests of users.

The Dems will do it anyway, regardless. Do you seriously think that, if the Dems ever regain power, they will allow themselves to be bound by rules and tradition? They ALREADY nuked the filibuster for all lesser confirmations when they had the power.

We might as well push the button now.

Then why didn't they do it for Obama's last appointee? Especially since Hillary was destined to win? Reid's nihilism is costing the Dems greatly and will do so for a long time to come. We don't need to join him.

Because Republicans held the Senate at the time, 54 to 46.

The nuke option only makes sense if your party holds the Presidency, and while you have more than 50 senators, but less than the 60 senators it takes to stop a filibuster.

I disagree.

Schumer is a hard line Leftist who devoutly believes in a hard line Leftist agenda.
