Judy, I am in my third year working at a hotel. Lots of learning in the "wow, is that for real" department but for me one of the saddest things is a reoccurring yearly situation at Prom time.
Parents call wanting to book a block of rooms for their child/date and friends after the prom
Just the kids
When I tell them one party in each room must be an adult etc.. the parent quickly throws in .. oh one will be there. When I say that we will call the police to verify and the parents will be responsible for criminal charges etc.. usually they stop the reservation process. And yes, we would have a list of THE rooms and when we get our first call from other hotel guests as a complaint, we will call the police and they will knock on the door and they will take appropriate action. Detaining, removing from hotel, calling parents, filing charges.
The parents had NO plans to be there. They want to turn the several hotel rooms into a party center where perhaps their desire to be a grandmother will be achieved
cripes when I went to my proms (yes, I know the dark ages).. we had a deadline to be home. And heaven help us if that weren't met
to even think our parents would say.. see you tomorrow = whenever... have fun.. don't get into (much) trouble ... etc
well, it is a sad commentary and trust me .. this is not an isolated situation. This is a dozen times (just for me as one front desk clerk) a prom season
That’s eye-opening Dolly. I remember the specials that Hannity did for a couple of years with Ansley (before she was on F&F) down in FL showing what was going on - pitiful! And to recently learn that some kids were spending their student loan money on Spring Breaks - just amazingly stupid - and then we’re supposed to forgo the loans???
I heard on the radio yesterday that an girl was arrested in FL for underage drinking. Her mom actually sent the Sheriff a thank you letter for arresting her daughter! Too bad more parents weren’t like that. I would have been in deep doo doo with my dad, the Sarge, had I done something like that.
Very sad commentary on our society, Dolly, when this has become the norm.
I’m glad your hotel is standing its ground. And I’m sure the other guests appreciate it, too!
We had a parent call to say they were having a graduation party and drinks will be there. After all its much better drinking at their home than somewhere out. That didn’t go well with me either.
Wow. Little wonder there are so many problems. My sister always said, when she was raising her son, the other kids aren’t really the problem, it’s their stupid parents.
