I am still convinced that Trump never wanted this bill to pass at all.

Just think about it ...

Everything about Donald Trump is grand and ambitious -- even to the point where it might be ridiculous and unrealistic. Why the hell would he go out on a limb and support a House bill that offered nothing of substance to the people who elected him? This was the equivalent of buying one crappy building in the Cabrini Green housing project and calling it Trump Tower Chicago.

I'm not exactly sure what Trump's long-term objective is here, and his Twitter message this morning is mystifying to say the least ... but that pile of nonsense served up by Ryan sure couldn't have been a part of it.

If he follows through and tries to primary Dave Brat, he becomes my political foe.

Well scratch that one off my list :)

WHAT did the Freedom Caucus want that they couldn’t get.

That’s the realistic place to start from and how CONSERVATIVE was it that it couldn’t be added.

Trump is definitely very conservative on a lot of issues.

But I think he is less conservative than myself on other issues.

No biggie but HEALTHCARE is because my wife’s post cancer treatments are costing a FORTUNE compared to 3 years ago even.

And i need endoscopic and colonoscopies every 2 years because of precancerous cells

used to be 10 bucks. now TWENTY percent of the whole procedure.

That could be thousands. I’m thinking of doing it myself with a hose and a small cell phone :)

He should have instead prepared ground to defeat the Democrat Senators in the states he dominated. Isn’t there 10 or more of them?

Ryan and Trump should have had the total repeal in a clean one page Bill #1. And then, in a simple 4 to 5 page Bill, have some common sense healthcare reform in a second clean bill. Bill #2 have Tort reform and insurance across state lines and government out of the free and open market.

Defeated conservatives as the goal of Ryan makes me sick.

I don't think too many of these Freedom Caucus members are overly concerned about losing in a primary. They opposed a House bill that had the support of about 17% of the voters in this country.

Supporting a bill that has such little public support would be like betting on the Washington Generals to beat the Harlem Globetrotters.

Good point.

We should drop the whole "tort reform" conversation, too. Tort reform in a Federal health care bill is pointless because malpractice lawsuits aren't filed in Federal court. They're adjudicated in state courts. A number of states have already adopted their own tort reform measures, with seemingly little success in reducing health care costs.

I agree. Use the Damn Harry Reid rule until the mess gets fixed. We need to oust Mitch "The Senate Turtle" McConnel and Paul RINO Ryan before Trump's presidency goes down in flames.

Hummm, does make you wonder? A deal for the sake of a deal isn’t really a deal worth having, is it?

The Freedom Caucus was lying about the nature of the bill and deliberately went "for purity's sake!" on it, even though they know a full repeal would never pass the House, as proven Friday.

Geez Prez Trump! This was just adding gas to the fire when it wasn’t needed.

I understand the foxhole mentality when you and your men are under fire and must rely on each other to get through the battle and survive but it does no one any good to place blame where everyone already knows it belongs. Sometimes I think you’re too insulated just as all US Presidents are.

Please realize who your friends are and who are working for the other side. It sounds like you don’t know right now.

So you’re in the process. Means nothing. You still have to get those votes and it must have replace to do that.

You get an output with you not in the room. You go into the room, you could the moderate votes, and you come out with the same output. Your presence won’t matter.

It’s not ideology. It’s math.

wouldn't it be best to put out simple bills like a one page Obama care repeal, then find out who would vote against it? Trump could have popularly used that to go after those who would vote against that.

Hell, it could be a simple one sentence bill that almost ALL Americans and even most Democrats could understand.

How many pages is our wonderful Constitution? Why are things so much more complex these days?

Let’s be clear. Many Freepers supported Trump as a clearly better choice than corrupt Clinton. They did so knowing that he is not now and has never been a conservative. Populism overlaps with conservatism on immigration, secure borders, strong military, free speech. But populism often favours big government entitlements. Trump could support Ryancare because it’s not an important enough issue for him to oppose. We have to face facts that he is not a true conservative and will try to compromise on some of these economic issues. But he is dead wrong attacking the Freedom Caucus for standing behind the pledge they made to their own constituents. Want a compromise bill? Try selling it to “moderate Democrats”, if you can find any.
