Refugee returns home to find it spray-painted with nasty anti-Muslim graffiti
CNN ^ | 3/30 | Joe Sutton

Posted on 04/02/2017 8:12:14 PM PDT by ErikJohnsky

Hasel Afshar moved from Iran to the US seven years ago as a refugee. In that time, he's had his share of run-ins with xenophobes who's yelled at him to go back to his country or threatened him with violence.

But none of that prepared him for what greeted him when he came home earlier this week. The house in Troutdale, Oregon, had been ransacked and laced with graffiti. The vandals smashed his door with an ax, slashed his furniture, and spray-painted graffiti everywhere.

....

"The funny thing, I'm not Muslim," Afshar told KPTV.

I have found info from a better source: http://portlandtribune.com/pt/9-news/352251-231966-bias-crime-targets-troutdale-homeowner but given how CNN is does have a big platform, I felt it important to point out that they are covering it.

I want no Muslim refugees as much as any patriot; however, just as when Sikhs get hurt, Bahaiis should not be getting crud from anyone. Bahaiism is persecuted by Iran and other Islamists; Bahaiis are one of the few pro-Israel groups in the ME outside Jews themselves and have their world HQ in Haifa, Israel, and Bahaii is truly a peaceful religion.

We have seen so many lies and fake news reports, I am always a little skeptical. Some of these reports may be true, but I think the majority are a pack of lies.

Oddly reassuring vandalism?

There are Bahá’ís in prison in Iran just for being Baha’is. It’s sad that there are people in the United States that don’t know the difference. It’s as if Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany were attacked for being Nazis just they had a German last name.

But it would be okay if he was Muslim? If true, this behavior is criminal.

I’m not familiar with Bahaiism. However, even if he were Muslim, this would be wrong. You do not show your disapproval of someone’s culture by breaking into their home and spraying ugly messages everywhere. No, no, no! All you do is provoke backlash and promote mutual distrust.

We can’t always control who our neighbors are before they even move in, in fact usually, we can’t. Give this person or this household a chance to assimilate. It takes very little effort to get most new neighbors to trust you, or at least feel less apprehensive in your presence.
I’m all for preserving our American culture, but before I knew I was American, I was a Christian, and I was raised to treat others as I would wish to be treated. Give this new neighbor the benefit of a doubt. He may be okay.

The Bahai’ are a decent, peaceful people who have been killed by the Nazi regime in Iran.

They are good Americans. I used to work with one, a very gentle, decent woman.

This type of vandalism must be punished severely, not excuses accepted.

Statistical analysis of all the “reported” hate crimes of this sort tends to make me believe this is fake news.

Yeah, interesting thing is that Troutdale is basically a suburb of Portland, and while there is no shortage of freaks who might break into a house there, that area is hardly a place where you’ll find people doing massively politically incorrect things. That area is exactly the kind of place, though, where you’d get left-wingers doing false flag BS to get attention though

I had a Bahai’ Iranian neighbor for 20 years. The guy was a model American and as peaceable as one can be.

Deputies said they also found a note weighed down with seven bullets arranged in the shape of a cross.

Why do I detect a strong odor of progressofascist dirty tricks in this incident?!!!

Good to know. Thanks for posting this. I learned something new today and it’s only 1230 am. ;)

Obviously it’s never a good thing when someone gets their home broken into and busted up regardless of who they are or might be affiliated with. That just isn’t how decent people operate.

Sadly history is filled with just this kind of mean-spirited vandalism. Obviously if there was a known terrorist loving and helping Muslim living next door to me I’d want them gone from not only my neighborhood but our country or in prison. I still wouldn’t condone doing that kind of thing to their home. Heck; they would be within their rights to shoot someone dead for breaking in like that in AZ.

“what I’m saying is that incidents like this make good faith skeptics of Islam, like us, look bad.”

That is precisely why Muslims do this. I don’t remember a single authentic case.
