Then-National Security Adviser Susan Rice did at times ask that certain names in intelligence reports be “unmasked” in order to understand the context in which they were mentioned in intelligence reports, a former national security official told CBS News.
Rice asked for the identities of those Americans picked up during surveillance of foreign nationals when it was deemed important context for national security, and she did not ask that the information be disseminated broadly, according to this former official.
A Monday report by Bloomberg’s Eli Lake said that Rice requested the unmasking of Trump officials. Names of Americans swept up incidentally in the collection of intelligence are normally masked, or kept redacted, in intelligence briefings.

Another thing I don’t quite get, yet, is that not two days before Nunes went before the cameras, he had been saying Trump’s tweet had no evidence of Obama “wiretaps” on Trump Tower.
Now, we’re told Nunes was reportedly made aware that evidence did exist, back in January?
I realize he had not seen it yet, but how could you go out and make a blanket statement that Trump’s tweet flatly held no water? He knew evidence was said to exist to the contrary. He just couldn’t get to it, for being slow balled by IC.
That hurt Trump to have the chairman making pooh pooh statements showing disregard to what Trump was trying to say in his tweet.

No joke. It was easily predictable that this would be the spin, but the main takeaway is once the spin starts you know the target is being impacted. They will move from hysterically denying this to subtly spinning it to be “nothing illegal.”
The real story is being overlooked for the most part by the MSM. When you back away from it and examine it on the merits this story is scandalous. It is not just what Rice did either.... Obama changing the rules on how information was shared indicates what the intent was - leaks. All of this was done for political reasons.

Or, catch the leaker and work your way back from there. There are a finite number of people who had access, and then accessed this raw intelligence. There are likely digital and paper records of everyone who say it.

Every federal agency was weaponized under Obama. And they used that power effectively. IRS, FBI, CIA, NSA, DOJ...all of them.
And they were all populated at every level with committed, true believers.
Don’t think they surveilled only Trump. And don’t be surprised that as this unfolds we hear of Sanders, Cruz, Bush etc. Remember, they started on Trump in June or July 2016 as far as we know.
It's only unclear if you believe the lies from the last administration. The last time CBS did such crack reporting, Dan Rather's name was on the byline.
The procedures were changed by an Obama modification to EO 12333, first issued by Reagan and modified several times since.
The last modification was requested by the Intelligence community to GW Bush and was under policy development since and was not expected to go in force.
Then, suddenly after Trump was elected there was a hurry and push to get it through with all the Obama cronies signing off.
