Exactly! Off year elections seem to have lower turnout here from my experience for whatever reason. A normal year election, the dems focus would be on defending more seats, and this would have not been that close.
Jim Thompson already signed up to run again in 2018 but he won't have near the support system this go round as the dems will have to focus on defending many more seats and turnout will be much better for Estes (that is as long as he doesn't do something terrible that ticks off the voters).

It’s a shame the folks in Georgia didn’t have a dynamic accomplished leader with a combat record to run against the effeminate leftist; somebody like Duane Duncan Hunter or Tom Cotton would mop the floor with him. Instead they’re recycling some dried up old broad dating back to the Gingrich era. “And the beat goes on” with The Stupid Party.
Brownback did not want to fund education to the absurd levels demorepubs wanted. They got the courts to do their bidding, and so more dollars for education.
Brownback vetoed a plan by the demorepubs to increase taxes so he is not popular with most in state government, but particularly the left leaning rhinos.
I think he has done a great job. His in state approval numbers are in the tank—but good on him for standing tall.
The DNC media was concern trolling the public with fake polls claiming the Republican might lose.
