The cost of Betsy DeVos’s security detail — nearly $8 million over nearly 8 months
Washington Post ^ | 07 April 2017 | Emma Brown and Devlin Barrett

Federal marshals are protecting Education Secretary Betsy DeVos at a cost to her agency of nearly $8 million over nearly eight months, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The Education Department has agreed to reimburse the marshals $7.78 million for their services from mid-February to the end of September, said a marshals spokeswoman — an average of about $1 million per month.

Marshals will continue providing security for the education secretary for the next four years, or until either agency decides to terminate the arrangement, under an agreement signed last week. There was no information immediately available about what that would cost beyond September. DeVos is the only Cabinet secretary under the protection of the marshals, law enforcement officers who are generally responsible for protecting federal judges, transporting prisoners, apprehending fugitives and protecting witnesses. They also guard the deputy attorney general and Supreme Court justices when they travel.

Yes; a million a month does seem far too high. I don’t believe it. Even with 6 secret service agents, the cost of their room and board, plus incidentals should not cost that much. Anything over $50k a month sounds like far too much.

I’m wondering the same thing. You could have 100 men guarding her, each one of them making $10,000 per month. Seriously??

The cost as quoted seems much too high. I doubt there is air support. Maybe the initial costs were high (special van and other equipment), but the fixed costs (mostly labor) should not be too high. This sounds like disinformation.

8-million in security costs is peanuts compared to what DeVos can save in wasted funds gobbled up by the education system.

If liberals were not so rabidly pro-death (not just of babies, but of Trump appointees), this wouldn’t be an issue.

It isn’t DeVos’s fault.

It is a lot more than that. The article cites 22 positions and I suspect that is not everything. Sounds like round the clock 7 day a week security, undoubtedly plus armored SUV's and maybe government aircraft transportation.

Funny how the WaPo is suddenly interested in the cost of security under the Trump administration. They could care less when Obama was in charge.

and Pelosi’s jet plane trips to SF every weekend....

Did Pelosi get to keep the huge plane she demanded when she was Speaker? No former Speaker had had such a large plane, but Queen Nancy did not want to have to stop and refuel on the way to CA. Actually, no Speaker should have a government plane at all.

Isn’t it though? Among several intrigues.. suddenly the Marxist media wants war with Russia, or rather sound like it. They’re mad because Russia told Hillary to go off herself, I suppose.

And the say Trump flips. Humph.

"WaPo wants her to die"

Exactly.

Here's a tip for the "fiscal conservatives" at the WaPo

If the liberals stopped threatening Betsy DeVos and stopped endlessly harassing her, her security costs would drop to around zero.

Liberals are whining about the cost of protecting the Education Secretary but they mention that they created the need for this protection ... from them.

How? By protesting at a school and blocking an entrance?

Violent and obstructionist liberals need to be locked up. They need to be sued by whitey against racism and by men against femenazism. In my life time I have never seen such racist pigs in positions of power.
