Many of you didn’t like him but here’s my story about being a distant neighbor of sorts to LBJ.
On Friday afternoons, he’d fly in with about 4 helicopters. His lake house was/is the typical old white wooden farmhouse. Not big and not fancy. He had a handful of dark green painted metal boathouses built for his SS. It was a guarantee that shortly after his arrival, he’d be coming by in his boat. Usually, just a couple of SS in his boat or maybe another SS boat nearby. Just your regular ski boats. Again, nothing special.
He’d wave at people sitting on their docks and ask fishermen if they’d caught anything. If you waved him over, he’d stop to visit. One time, the neighbor kid waved but the POTUS didn’t notice him so another neighbor wrote to ask if he’d make a point to watch for the kid. The next weekend, LBJ pulled up to their dock and gave the boy a knife with the presidential seal. As he was leaving, he asked to use to use the bathroom. Of course, the toilet got a special sign, “LBJ sat here.”
I tried to tell the new owners (several by now) not to get rid of the toilet during the remodel but they didn’t believe me. Other owners haven’t believed the story either. Oh, well. I probably should give them some pictures of it but if they won’t take my word for it then they don’t deserve my pictures.
Texas Gov. John Connally and his wife Nellie had a house directly across the lake from LBJ’s. They put in a large cement Texas star in the front yard. The two families were very close. They’d have cook outs and parties at each other’s homes with family and friends. That is why I’ll never believe LBJ had anything to do with JFK’s assassination. Nellie would have never have let him eat at her table or be around her children and grandchildren if he had.
Once, on a visit at his pilot’s place at the Johnson’s ranch house (a different place from the lake house), I went out to say hi when he was working on a crop irrigation system. He was dirty and sweaty and had his shirt unbuttoned much like W at his ranch. I was a kid at the time so he could have ignored me or hollered hello but he stopped what he was doing, walked across the field and gave me a hug.
Good morning Ray. I too was at Home Depot yesterday. I on the other hand brought home 200 border stones to line my flower areas. My truck was having a hard time on the way home. LOL People in back of me weren’t to happy going 30 MPH.
That portrait is enough to upchuck a nice dinner over.
That's the cost of setting up business in a corrupt country. GM will pass the expense onto its customers so no great loss to their bottom line.
So sorry to worry you, never thought I would be gone so long, will have to remember to take my laptop.

We don’t have a Cracker Barrel here but stopped at one on vacation many years ago (before Soretoro). Their lima beans tasted so much like my grandma’s that I got all teary eyed.
I am just so HAPPY to hear from you I am jumping up and down with excitement!!! We thought you had gone to visit relatives but didn’t say goodbye before you left and with life being SO DAMNED unpredictable we were SO WORRIED!!! So HAPPY to see your name on this thread you will NEVER KNOW!!!!
