Brat: New health care bill can be done in a week

Rep. Dave Brat said Friday the GOP can get the new health care bill done in a week.

“It’s not really a new bill,” Mr. Brat, Virginia Republican and a member of the House Freedom Caucus, said on CNN’s “New Day.” “We’re still waiting on the official text.”

Mr. Brat said that after the Republicans’ failed attempt at putting together a replacement plan for Obamacare last month, Vice President Mike Pence came together with House Republicans to work out the issues from the last bill.

“Vice President Pence came over and met with all of us. He had a great compromise. That’s what we’re working on right now is the text of what he said. And if that goes into play, we’re all at yes” Mr. Brat explained.

Mr. Brat said the bill isn’t that hard to craft the language for since it’s not all that different than the bill that failed to be voted on last month.

“It just allows the states to opt out of some of the regs,” he said.

If enough Conservatives stab Trump in the back over this we’ll never get a chance for something better.

Healthcare is complex, very expensive, and broken due to decades of political malfeasance. Fixing it while staying politically alive is difficult and going to take time.

No it isn’t.

And settling in and accepting Democrat-lite solutions to everything is the worst thing we can do.

Everything?

Isn’t that a bit of an exaggeration?

We’ll see what happens on taxes, but we’re already continuing DACA and talking amnesty and then we’ve got Obamacare 2.0 as the only substantive legislation proposed so far.

Gorsuch was good, but I shiver at the idea of who Jared and Ivanka have in mind for the court replacement of Kennedy this summer, since I know they’ve reportedly already been involved in it.

Those IMO are the big four: illegal immigration, the SC, Obamacare and tax cuts.

You got that right. I was glad to be part of the vote to get rid of Cantor.

The win IS more important than the substance.

The money for everything else comes from Ryan’s arrangement for savings in the scoring.

There is no Trump agenda of any kind without this.

These Freedom Caucus goons are literally too stupid not to tie their own shoelaces together.

Remember that saying “Vote With Your Feet”? It was an original intent of the founders(and they didn’t even have moving trucks) to keep things in self balance. I did it a few years ago. Moved off the SE coast to a flyover State. If this goes through, I won’t have to worry about the mandate.

At least it’s sending something back to the States as opposed to the opposite which has been going on since........Reagan?

The mandate has already gone away by virtue of President Trump's EO that the IRS not enforce it.

Its not really the mandate that has driven costs through the roof, its the required coverage that drives up costs unnecessarily. My wife and I are 57. We're required to have coverage for pediatric care, including dentistry. We're required to have maternity coverage when there is no physical way we can have kids. Oh, and the 60 in-patient drug rehab coverage isn't necessary either. These are just some of the BS items everyone is required to have covered.

Umm Obamacare is national law but the insurance companies are still state regulated and unless you can get a national health insurance dont worry about it. The policy is a contract.

Exactly! The mandates we are currently talking about are the “EHB” mandates and the “Age 26” mandate and the “preexisting” mandate. The “coverage” mandate just changed forms, and is now a 30% penalty paid to the insurance company instead of the IRS. These mandates jack premiums thru the roof and will lead to a faster “death-sprial” w/o the extra taxes/fees the GOP is cutting out. Wife & I are trying to do early retirement at about age 61 and current quotes for crappy health insurance are $960.00/mo. for a $5850. p/p deductible...$17,370. to $23,220. out of pocket before insurance kicks in!! Guess we’ll have to look at a Christian “Medishare Program”. This AHCA bill is just as horrible as the last one!

FWIW, I'd worry about the "safe" states and what could happen. Look what happened in OH. The Legislature voted overwhelmingly against Medicare expansion. Governor Kasick used an "obscure rule" (ie: did what he damn well pleased) and over-rode them. Arms will be twisted everywhere. They'll invent new diseases that require mandated care.

That's why "no mandate" is so important. If people can't opt out without a penalty, there are no checks and balances. It'll be WORSE than what we have now. JMHO
