New Orleans officials removed the first of four prominent Confederate monuments early Monday, the latest Southern institution to sever itself from symbols viewed by many as a representation racism and white supremacy.
The first memorial to come down was the Liberty Monument, an 1891 obelisk honoring the Crescent City White League.
Workers arrived to begin removing the statue, which commemorates whites who tried to topple a biracial post-Civil War government in New Orleans, around 1:25 a.m. in an attempt to avoid disruption from supporters who want the monuments to stay, some of whom city officials said have made death threats.

The funny thing about Lee's statue is that he is pointing - at a building with YMCA engraved in the stone. The locals say he is warning, "Yankees May Come Again"

The left has to erase history. History says things like
* Ds were slave owners and racists,
* anti-gun laws hurt people,
* communism fails
Hard to force stupid ideas on people if they can looks at history and see they are stupid ideas.
Once society gets used to changing history by removing monuments they can start putting up monuments for Marx and others and telling people that communism was good.

I’m pretty sure blacks killed or maimed more white people than the number of slaves that were ever abused here in this country. Where are our paybacks? Oh, and not to mention the tens of thousands of white folk that gave their lives during the Civil War for their freedom. I am getting so sick and tired of this I can hardly be civil any more. I was never racist but I hate truly black people that will not show respect for others much less themselves. I will go shoulder to shoulder with any black man or woman that works hard, cares for their family and doesn’t have a chip on their shoulder. The rest of them can go f*ck themselves.

That's what they imply, but I don't see any affirmation in the explanations of these petty tyrants for their despicable objective to "erase" history.
In their highly-charged, race-absorbed state the Left fails to consider that these monuments, etc. serve to not just acknowledge our past, but as a constant reminder to not return there ... something tyrants often do when their subjects forget history.
