The Real Story Behind the ‘Somali Pirates VS Ship’s Private Security Guards’ Viral Video

We have come a long way since the height of Somali piracy when highly organized pirate gangs roamed the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean in search of merchant ships to hijack for multi-million dollar ransoms.

During the most active years, from 2008 to 2012, armed pirates were attacking hundreds of ships per year, successfully pirating more than 130 vessels and taking their crews hostage – some of whom were held captive for years in the most abominable conditions imaginable.

The video in question is titled “Somali Pirates VS Ship’s Private Security Guards” and since it was posted last Thursday it has racked up over 12 million views, easily reaching YouTube’s top trending list. It has also prompted some publishers to re-post as if this just happened. The problem is, the video is now more five years old

OK so it's an oldie it's still a goodie. Sort of like me watching a Die Hard rerun for the 87th time. Love to see the bad guys loose.

What OTHER world leader came to power between 2008 and 2012 when these Islamic pirates were running rampant at sea and (again) were attacking merchant ships and holding their crews hostage?

I saw the vid years ago. And when it was reposted on FR I think the poster said it was a rerun. But, the context is important, as the author says. I sure disagree that the on board security used excessive force. That suggestion is idiotic.

Another vid that is often shown without context is one of the Russian navy blasting a pirate ship. But I read elsewhere that the pirates had already been evacuated from the ship before it blew.

All the above underscores the reality that savages, whether they be raiding BART in Oakland or ships in the ocean, must experience the harshest response possible. Anything else does nothing but to embolden them.

Remember a few years ago when Somali pirates captured a Russian ship? When Russian special forces recaptured the ship they put the captured pirates including the dead and wounded back on their boat and riddled it with gunfire sinking it with all hands. The video tape of the event was widely circulated and I don’t recall any Russian ships being attacked since. Perhaps instead of bringing captured pirates to the US to stand trial they all are “killed” in the retaking of the ship and their home port is bombed sinking anything that floats.

Yes, and the kicker is that some raghead is shouting Allah Snackbar repeatedly in panic mode. You just have to wonder when they will figure out that God really doesn’t like them at all.

Good for the Russians. Making fish bait out of them on the scene is the appropriate response. Alternatively they could load up the skiff with all the dead, fire it up within range of the Somali coast and “send the Somali’s a “message.”

Now I don't speak Arabic, but I've seen (heard) this same thing so many times that I've come to believe that a literal translation is "Holy $#!T!"
