It was NOT supposed to be a “policy” briefing!

It was a Classified briefing regarding the nature of the threat.

There would be no point to telling the Senators, “If Kim does this, we’ll do that.”

The point of defining the threat is to prepare them to understand the reason for whatever response is deemed necessary.

I’d say we are on some 10 to 15 day window of something happening.

I like the turf part of the equation. The Senators had to go to the whitehouse, they left their turf. Trump is saying "This is my call!"

The constitution calls it - provide for the common defense. The NOK keep claiming their goal is to prepare nuclear missiles to rain down on the U.S.

While I agree, then what was the purpose of the briefing?

Are you really not paying attention? Or are you just extra dull?

The mere act that TRUMP called in the Senate to the White House, is a clear signal to the NORKs that this POTUS is serious about the gravity of the situation!

No “JV” or “red line” BS talk, followed by a failure to act , for TRUMP!

Senators aren’t very smart at all. Keeping this secret would keep Kim guessing. “Why did they have to meet at the white house, what’s different”. They can’t help themselves though. The President isn’t just fighting foreign enemies, unfortunately.

When the senators report that nothing substantial was discussed, then it basically signals to the NORK's that nothing of serious gravity if going on. If on the other hand the Senator's came out saying things are very grave, then that would be a clear signal that the NORK's better settle down or head for the hills.

It's the same as Trump's currency manipulation stance change. China isn't stupid and they know the score.

That’s how I always read it. It says, “I’m seeking war powers”

“There was very little, if anything new,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) told The Washington Post.

“I remain mystified about why the entire Senate had to be taken over to the White House rather than conducting it here,” he said.

No surpise here. Blumenthal is still mystified about how shoelaces are tied.

The real purpose of this gathering was to send a message to the North Koreans and China ...

I'm inclined to agree with that.

In any case I would think the focus of a meeting like Trump called would be to give the Senators an update on the state of the threat and his view of the status of the NK nuclear program. Talking about the range of possible U.S. responses would not be appropriate for a meeting where information will leak like a sieve.

One Republican lawmaker, who chose to remain anonymous, claimed they weren’t updated on what the current policy was regarding the Hermit Kingdom...

Maybe because Trump knows that the lawmakers will immediately let the Norks know His plans through the media?

Is it his call here though? He’ll be starting a major war, shouldn’t that be declared by Congress? At the very least he has to show an imminent threat before attacking. Is that what he was doing here?

And there is more:

Following news reports of irregularities concerning his conduct in office, May was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1946 to the Eightieth Congress. The bribery scandal was intensified by testimony of excessive profit-taking in the Garsson munition business, and that the Garsson factory produced 4.2-inch mortar shells with defective fuzes, resulting in premature detonation and the deaths of 38 American soldiers.[8] After less than two hours of deliberation,[9] May was convicted by a federal jury on July 3, 1947, on charges of accepting bribes to use his position as Chairman of the Military Affairs Committee to secure munitions contracts during the Second World War. Murray and Henry Garsson also received prison terms.[10] After protracted efforts to avoid incarceration,[9] May subsequently served nine months in federal prison.

Use a Sunday newspaper with all of the real estate adds and other ads.

Of course that might be considered an assault with a deadly weapon!

Thanks. I was not aware of this traitor. He must have had a lot of dirt on FDR and HST to only get 9 months in a federal prison.

“Several senators asked specifically, ‘What is the policy?’ and the briefers gave us very, very few details,” the senator said.

Of course you blabbermouths weren't given any details. You got what you deserve.

What too many have forgotten - we have technically been “at war” since 1950 with North Korea. Wile an armistice was signed, setting up the demilitarized zone, there was never a peace treaty or official end to the war - that is why the US still keeps 30-40K military in South Korea.

The Korean conflict really was 3rd World War - as it involved 24+ nations, with North Korea, China and Russia on one side, and 21+ on the other (even though the US provided over 80% of the military might of that conflict).

We should have ended that “war” one way or the other long ago. Our continued presence in South Korea is like a gaping wound that just won’t heal. The NK dictators have been like the seeping puss that keeps the wound inflamed, preventing healing. The necrotic flesh needs to be excised - which means dealing with NK once and for all. The key is getting China to let that happen.
