Former First Lady Michelle Obama appeared to rule out running for elected office during her first public remarks since leaving the White House.
"It's all well and good until you start running, and then the knives come out." It's hard on a family, she said. "I wouldn't ask my children to do this again because when you run for higher office, it's not just you. It's your whole family."
But "public service will always be in our blood", she added.
Although Mrs Obama had played down her political ambitions before, while first lady, this is the first time she has done so since the election campaign, when she was widely viewed as the most effective weapon in the Democratic armoury.

They should try to perform a “public service” like running a bed and breakfast. McGovern tried it and it was a real eye opener.

I remember reading somewhere — maybe in something Steinbeck wrote — a little story about a farm boy who, for the first time, went with his father to take a cow to a neighboring farm to get it “serviced.” The boy didn’t know what that meant, but he found out quickly. Afterward, whenever the boy heard someone talking about service, he wondered who was getting screwed.
In order for what they did to be rightly called “public service” it has to appear that way to the receiver of the “service”.
She’s the best hope for democrats - - this is a sacrifice on her part. It is for her children.
