In dealing with rising tensions with North Korea, President Trump is making all the right moves according to one Illinois congressman.
House Foreign Affairs Committee member, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, noted the differences in the current commander-in-chiefs use of carrot and stick diplomacy in dealing with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un versus the actions, or non-actions, by former President Obama.

Now what youre seeing is actually an aggressive administration, and youre seeing the dance between military posturing and a credible military threat in order to use the diplomatic instrument of power to hopefully get to a peaceful solution, the Republican congressman told Fox News host Martha MacCallum on the premiere of The Story Monday.
Kinzinger, an Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran, noted that, while people may be confused by what looks like contradictory behavior from the president, he is using both reward and punishment to induce cooperation from Kim Jong-un.
Thats how this diplomacy works, he said. Its trying to use pressure to bring the dictator to the table and get rid of his nukes.
Trump acknowledged the threat posed by North Korea during an interview with Fox News Eric Bolling. Though he did not reveal what would trigger a military action from the U.S., the president said he would act if and when needed.
I dont like drawing red lines but I act if I have to act, Trump said.

Ping.
Also, Trump is demonstrating that he understands the significance of “face” in Asian cultures. Consider his politeness to and praise of Xi after a beautiful Mar-a-Lago weekend and even his statement that he would be “honored” to meet with Kim.
The concept of “face” is very important to Xi and Kim.
Trump is showing that he is willing to exhaust the alternatives before using force.
The great politesse of Trump’s carrot bespeaks the size and power of the stick he has waiting in the wings.
It appears President Trump has a better understanding of how different cultures work than the media or democrats
In some ways, NYC is a melting pot, but in others it is a giant mass of individual ethnic groups, each group living in its own ghetto.
Next to the art and sophistication, that's what I like most about it. That's where the great food comes from.
President Trump has a small olive branch in one hand and a big quiver full of arrows in the other.
Unlike Obama who had an airplane full of pallets of cash on one hand and, well, his other hand seems to have been in our pockets.
Yep. That's a Trump carrot.
Is Trump just waiting for the results of SK elections, before using a military strike? A new Korean president will be elected in the May 9
I agree and I took severe umbrage when that Obama hag, Marie Harf? (the newer Fox News contributor) ragged about President Trump’s “poor choice of the word ‘honored’” to meet with NK’s tyrant leader.
I thought to myself, “you don’t realize the larger picture, Miss Tiny Mind. You don’t realize that President Trump is attempting to appeal to Kim Jong-un’s massive ego!”
I don't think he is waiting but he has clearly factored that matter into the equation.
It appears (from a great distance) that the U.S. is aligned with the South Korean military and intelligence services which are very close to our commanders on the ground.
With South Korea being in such close proximity to danger from the North, I have wondered if the South Korean military and intel services might be shielding the public from information about the threat from the North.
South Korea is only part of the equation...Japan, Guam, and the U.S. itself (Hawaii first, then the mainland) being the other parts.
If China cannot corral Kim or remove him (and I am certain there is an outstanding offer of comfortable exile on the table), we will act.
There is the carrot and the stick.
Kim is, so far, rejecting the carrot.
He won't like the stick.
Mattis will make sure that we dig Kim out of his bunkers...and then put him on trial for his human rights crimes.
The next big challenge will be the healing and assimilation of the abused North Korean population.
China is lusting after the rare earth minerals in North Korea (and doesn't want Korea unified)...but we will see how Trump negotiates the after-action mopping up.
If Trump pulls this off, Congress will be eating out of his hands (small though they may be;-).
This is Trump's Cuban Missile Crisis, but infinitely bigger.
If Trump pulls this off as I believe he will...this presidency--and the Trump era--is just beginning.
Harf appears so uncomfortable.
But take a look at poor Hillary.
I think she even blamed you, dear Onyx, for her loss of the Presidency.
And then she mentioned a man named Jim Thompson...her nemesis.
Her Professor Moriarty, I presumed.
;-)
China is also “very concerned” about THAAD. He he
Trump, you magnificent...! Well, you know the rest.
The best outcome is the one you never see. Rush was talking to Pence today about the NORK missile launches and basically asking him if we did something to the launches. Pence wisely stayed WAY away from that, cuz if we were, we wouldn’t advertise it.
Having China deal with it would be the best option, “unseen” forces destroying missiles is acceptable, but you never know when you’ll miss one.
But I like the outcomes the whole world gets to see.
As I have read, the best thing a Christian can do is teach by example.
And along that line, the best thing America can do, for the world and for freedom, is demonstrate by our example what a free country can do to liberate a country imprisoned by its leaders.
Even when said "free country" (America) is under attack by those in it who are trying to destroy it.
Men and women around the world will get the word. This is the fruit of freedom...of free men and women.
“Is Trump just waiting for the results of SK elections, before using a military strike? A new Korean president will be elected in the May 9”
I have no idea but I would bet that is probably correct.
Unlike Obama who had an airplane full of pallets of cash on one hand and, well, his other hand seems to have been in our pockets.

$750 Billion in U.S. currency, stacked on pallets and Trump can’t get $10 billion for a wall.
