Swamp People: 47; Trump: 0

If this is the budget deal we get when Republicans control the House, the Senate and the presidency, there’s no point in ever voting for a Republican again.

Not only is there no funding for a wall, but — thanks to the deft negotiating skills of House Speaker Paul Ryan — the bill actually prohibits money from being spent on a wall.

At a CYA press conference on Tuesday, Trump’s ridiculously chipper budget director, Mick Mulvaney, described the bill’s prohibition on building a wall as a MAJOR win. (At least Mulvaney said it in English, unlike his all-Spanish 2014 townhall.)

Ugh! To heck with this place. The hand wringing will never end. I’ll stop by in a few months and see if things have improved.

Holy $&*(@!!!

In fact one of the journalists made a great point in front of Mulaveney.

Many of us think a shut down would be great idea. But you don't even have to do that. Trump should just VETO it. And then send it back saying it needs more work. No shut down. No compromise. Win win.

I'm with Ann on this one. Mulvaney didn't reassure me at all, but just made things worse. And she is right. Is this how a businessman negotiates? He must have lose millions giving goodies away.

The process is not something that I have been paying a lot of attention to. My concern is the result. But as far as I know, nether the house or the senate have even voted on it yet. In fact I think I heard earlier that it may even still be being marked-up, meaning it is not fully completed.

Nope. He is only shoring up wall already there. 40 miles tops.

No, he basically communicated that the wall is out, and money is spent on other border security measures.

It is a net negative for the 2nd 100 days. Trump is willing to sell out to Democrats. Will be like Bush. Never vetoing a spending bill?

There is a big difference in “prohibiting” or outlawing the building of a wall and simply not funding it. The executive branch has long had ways of shuffling around money to accomplish what it wants to, sometimes when Congress has not handed them the money for it. If the law prohibits Trump from building a wall, as some conservative websites and Freepers have claimed in the past day or so, that is much worse than Trump just being left to fend for himself on funding the wall.

And at least Mulvaney did make it clear they will be using the money to replace dinky chain-link fences on the border with 20 foot tall solid steel girders, which is at least a lot better than what’s there already.

During the briefing yesterday afternoon, Trump’s people revealed that for each $1.00 dollar the Republicans got for their things in the budget, the Democrats got $0.20 cents.

On top of this, it was also revealed that of that $0.20 cents, some of the things the Democrats requested in there, were things the Trump team had wanted. So effectively, some of that $0.20 cents was good for our side too.

This rather startling breakdown of who triumphed flies in the face of what the media and some misguided Republicans are saying.

It was also revealed that there is $375 million dollars in there for repair and replace wall sections.

They are starting on that immediately. The 20’ tall sections, will be see through, something the border agents had wanted.

I was not a happy camper at one point. That press briefing went a long way to alleviating my concerns.

Trump is on fire!

I’m curious from those that listened what was his tone? Was he shocked that Rush wasn’t buying it?

He was totally disingenuous, and since he was speaking to the people, he treated them like a bunch of inbred idiots.

Why doesn’t Trump just veto it, and send it back for a better deal?

Once the fencing runs out in the wilds of the NM border; then markewrs are placed every so often.

Time for an upgrade maintenance to a wall. Hehee.

Just 40 miles of wall, and then they are abandoning the effort to focus on more agents, more planes, ect. Which is fine. Just want them to be honest with us. The wall is out. OK. Now lets move on.
