If We Can't Repeal the Higher Education Act, Let's Try To Improve It

The United States got along nicely for its first 176 years without federal meddling in higher education. In 1965, however, Congress passed and President Johnson signed the Higher Education Act into law, putting the federal camel’s nose well inside the college tent.

That intrusion has had decidedly malign effects. College costs have risen far faster than ever before, while academic standards have generally declined to the point where people often now say, “College is the new high school.” Millions of Americans are deeply in debt for college degrees that often betoken little or no gain in useful knowledge.

The Higher Education Act was last reauthorized in 2008 and the congressional wheels are slowly moving toward another reauthorization this year, opening the law up to amendments. No one is talking about repealing this gigantic mistake, but at least there is an opportunity to marginally improve it.

Toward that goal, the National Association of Scholars (NAS) has done a great deal of work in formulating possible amendments, calling them the Freedom to Learn Amendments. Members of Congress should take heed.

First, NAS advocates changing Title I of the Act to include protection for students’ free speech and associational rights. Many schools have trampled all over those rights. I have previously written about some of them, such as the way Grand Valley State restricts free speech to a miniscule zone on campus.

“Improving” it is ultimately self defeating and perpetuates the Federal involvement in Education. Improve it now and it will be tweaked and slicked back to what it was and worse, some even during a Trump presidency. Kill it or remain indifferent to the strangling of the society and the nation. Any alternative merely, at best, prolongs the process of morbidity.

30%-plus adults out there with 4 year degrees taking up 10% of one’s working life. Jobs requiring a 4 year degree? More like 10%. Too many ‘smart’ people out there getting way past their K-12 indoctrination.

When did it become the rule that we could not sweep away any law passed by congress?

These squathead, self-serving, congressmen and senators do not represent us, they ignore the “consent of the people” and rule rather than represent.

If we as a country can sweep away a Constitutional structure like slavery then we can surely, through REAL representatives, do away with the Higher Education Act.

To go off on a tangent - when Obamacare was passed by “budget reconciliation,” Democrats snuck in another long-term time-bomb, the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, which basically nationalized all student loan-making

Student-loan debt, already at $400 billion, took off at that point, growing to now around $1.2 Trillion.

Congress basically set up a “Fannie-Mae/Freddie Mac” scenario. The Dept. of Education now makes and buys all kinds of crap student loans, which will blow up as soon as the economy turns.

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Only in the “blind leading the blind” United States do you hear talk of the hopelessness of repealing federal laws that the states have never expressly constitutionally delegated to the feds the specific power to make.

Regarding the Higher Education Act, President Thomas Jefferson had indicated in a State of the Union address that in order for the feds to regulate, tax and spend for INTRAstate educational purposes that the states would first need to amend the Constitution for that purpose, something that the states have never done.

Drain the swamp! Drain the swamp!

Remember in November ’18 !

Since Trump entered the ’16 presidential race too late for patriots to make sure that there were state sovereignty-respecting candidates on the primary ballots, patriots need make sure that such candidates are on the ’18 primary ballots so that they can be elected to support Trump in draining the unconstitutionally big federal government swamp.

Such a Congress will also be able to finish draining the swamp with respect to getting the remaining state sovereignty-ignoring, activist Supreme Court justices off of the bench.

In fact, if Justice Gorsuch turns out to be a liberal Trojan Horse then we will need 67 patriot senators to remove a House-impeached Gorsuch from office.

Noting that the primaries start in Iowa and New Hampshire in February ‘18, patriots need to challenge candidates for federal office in the following way.

While I Googled the primary information above concerning Iowa and New Hampshire, FReeper iowamark brought to my attention that the February primaries for these states apply only to presidential election years. And after doing some more scratching, since primary dates for most states for 2018 elections probably haven’t been uploaded at this time (March 14, 2017), FReepers will need to find out primary dates from sources and / or websites in their own states.

Patriots need to qualify candidates by asking them why the Founding States made the Constitution’s Section 8 of Article I; to limit (cripple) the federal government’s powers.

Patriots also need to find candidates that are knowledgeable of the Supreme Court's clarifications of the federal government’s limited powers listed above.

Exactly. We should have NO tax money going to ANY government indoctrination system since their curricula is to destroy agency (individualism/Natural Rights from God). The “System” destroys the minds of children by embedding dependency and lies (like boys are girls) to emasculate boys and to de-feminize women——make them into inauthentic males and females so they are easily manipulated, controlled and in debt (slaves for the system) for life

The System was designed by Malthusian satanists (Fabians, Gramsci (Frankfurt School—Cultural Marxists (PC), et.al. to destroy Western Civilization—emasculate and homosexualize males (androgynous PUSH!!! of radical egalitarianism so men are women) and make women hate and compete with males (tranny system) so NO reproduction occurs by the intelligent (hard to control) group.

The beautiful part is that their communist plan becomes SELF-imposed. WE allow ourselves to be the slaves and allow the State to indoctrinate and shape the desires and worldview of our OWN children......the whole point of the Prussian system of mass indoctrination.

Homeschool or hire tutors for your children and DON’T use ANY of the Common Core cr@p-—all of it is embedded with satanism (irrationality)—no Objective Truth (God), for total Mind Control. We need to go back to an apprentice system for “college”. Teenagers shouldn’t be wasting their times in the corrupting factories at all-—and when 21, they should be ready to marry the opposite sex and parent their own children so agency is learned and habituated-—never “group-(non)-think” in indoctrination factories aways from the Natural Family, where emotions will always trump reason.

Individualism is never “learned” in the artificial group-non-think factories that the State created to destroy agency for total Mind Control (snowflakes). Research Fichte 1810—free will—”Snow is Black”.
