Sen. Blumenthal calls on Sessions and Rosenstein to testify

HARTFORD. Conn. (WTNH)– A top Connecticut lawmaker wants to hear from Attorney General Jeff Sessions under oath on the Russia investigation. U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal made his case for that Friday.

On Thursday, we had that bombshell testimony from former FBI Director Jim Comey. Friday, we have Senator Richard Blumenthal calling for the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General to come testify in front of his committee.

Blumenthal was there in the audience Thursday as Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee. Blumenthal is not on that committee, so he could not ask questions. He did say that Comey painted a picture of a president abusing his power.

Blumenthal says Comey also pointed out how his bosses in the justice department should have insured the FBI’s independence as it investigates possible ties between the Trump administration and Russian hacking of the election. So Blumenthal wants to have the two top men in the justice department come and testify before the committee he is on, the Senate Judiciary Committee to talk about their actions.

“The failure of the Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Rod Rosenstein, the Deputy, to protect the FBI, to take action to safeguard the FBI,” said Blumenthal.

You may remember Sessions has had to recuse himself from anything to do with the Russia probe because of his ties to Russia, and Rod Rosenstein was the person who wrote the memo President Trump originally cited as the reason he fired Comey, before he said that he intended to fire Comey all along.

No word on when a hearing like that would take place, but Blumenthal says it is crucial to keep investigating the Russia ties, because the same interference could happen again in upcoming elections.

Iran lobby and their pet congresscritters:

Remember- Flynn’s case isn’t about Russia- they hate him beause of his vocal comments and book on Iran ...but can’t admit openly to their base that they support a terrorist country like Iran.

Hey, Senator Fake-Veteran Blumenthal ...

Trust me on this one -- the worst thing you could possibly do in this case is put Jeff Sessions in front of a Senate panel on national TV to explain his side of the story.

Blumenthal is a pompous ass. He is an insult to America and a reason for purging Connecticut from the Union

This is why Sessions recused, so he CAN be a witness vs Comey

BS. The only “agenda” from day 1 has been the Trump agenda, & even the writers at the HuffPo this week were warning that Trump is marching right over them.

What a bald faced lie. Sessions recused himself (read the letter) from anything to do with the campaigns for the office of president, because of his ties to the campaigns for the office of president. I take "the campaigns" ans Trumps primary and general campaigns. On those matters, sessions can;t be trusted to investigate a concern he is invested in and part of.

LS is right on this.

With all the attention on the three-ring circus in Comey's Senate hearing, nobody seems to be reporting that the House voted to overturn Dodd-Frank. LOL.

It's actually working out magnificently.

This is what happens when you have a TV entertainer in the White House. Even his enemies will never stop watching the shows he puts on the air.

I can go with a positive spin, but saying that Trump’s agenda has been the only agenda at forefront of people’s minds for the past 6 months is really reaching. Aside from Goresuch, there’s little evidence that Trump’s agenda is at the forefront of the Legislative or Judicial branches either.

This is it exactly. Pull Mueller’s special investigation (no evidence of anything after almost a year) and tell them all to stuff it.....and then move on and let them yell and scream.

Maybe you aren’t talking to the right people. Look at Lazamataz’s “daily win.”

Mind boggling. Then when you see that the HuffPo is making the same argument, it’s obvious Trump and only Trump is setting the agenda.

I agree the overturn is important AND I will add that it is also pretty low on the totem people when it comes to the explicit promises he made to the American people. It doesn’t rank in the top ten campaign reasons I voted for him.

There is something rotten about Rod Rosenstein. Comey somehow knew Mueller would get the SC appointment which came from Rosenstein unexpectedly out of nowhere. Mueller is a deep state hack who is probably brick by brick trying to build a case to get Trump.

The AG has recused himself from the Russian investigation and his deputy has appointed a special council to address the issue. I suspect that they will tell this clown to pound sand.

The plan is to drag the “investigation” out until the 2018 elections. Blumenthal is just the designated blowhard like Eddie Kennedy used to be before going into the Lake of Fire.

Blumenthal needs to shut up. Some people are still trying to see why he sued the ACC which damaged UConn...
