It’s true this is in line with what he said on the campaign trail, but he also did say the following, apparently at a speech in Phoenix last year:

“We will immediately terminate President Obama’s two illegal executive amnesties, in which he defied federal law and the constitution to give amnesty to approximately 5 million illegal immigrants.”

Apparently he gave this on Aug 31, 2016. If you search for that whole sentence above you’ll find multiple sites that all link to the same site back at donaldjtrump.com, which is this one https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases/donald-j.-trump-address-on-immigration

But as you can see it now returns a 404 error. But it’s unlikely all these disparate sources would all link to the same wrong website at donaldjtrump.com. It’s probably been taken down for the backlash it might produce. One could question where is the transcript of his speech on Aug 31, if not there?

Regardless that quote above, which is most likely accurate, shows he promised to recind both DACA and DAPA. Those are the two “illegal executive amnesties” Trump spoke about and everyone at the time understood to be referring to.

It’s true he said multiple times things like he’s “going after the criminals” and “we have to have a heart” and “we will let the good ones stay”. However he also promised to rescind DACA and DAPA. He has done so for DAPA, but obviously intends to keep DACA at this point, which is factually in contradiction to what he promised.

A promise delayed does not mean a promise broken.

What would you do? Trump repeals this program AT THIS POINT, and what does he give up in exchange?

1: Deporting felons.
2: Deporting ‘refugees.’
3: Chunks of ICE dedicated to border security in order to go after them.
4: Support from squishy Rs in Congress, which costs us:
4a: Obamacare repeal.
4b: Tax reform.
4c: Supreme Court nominees.
4d: Lower court nominees.

The President is not a dictator and he can’t break the laws of thermodynamics either; he has LIMITED resources and has to choose how to dedicate them.
