Democrats protest Senate Republican healthcare secrecy

U.S. Democrats took to the Senate floor on Monday to throw a spotlight on behind-the-scenes efforts by the Republican majority to repeal former President Barack Obama's healthcare law, known as Obamacare.

In a series of floor motions, inquiries and lengthy speeches, Democrats criticized the closed-door meetings that Republicans have been holding to craft a replacement for Obamacare, formally known as the Affordable Care Act. They called for open committee hearings and more time to consider the bill before a Senate vote, which Republicans say could come in the next two weeks, although a draft bill has yet to emerge publicly.

Recent ‘RAT actions (by Schumer et al) show that we’re near the end game of these Obamacare replacement political games. And the ‘RATS are scared.

Too Funny, the Dems are so distracted by the phony Russia collaboration meme that the GOP is repealing and replacing Obamacare right under their out of joint noses.

The choice presented as I understood it was to either:
allow the bill to be done [behind closed doors] resulting in a crappy bill

or

put the bill in the open to make it better.

Again, I don’t think that’s what’s there. Sure, we may end up with legislation that is crappy - but that it’s done behind closed doors does not assert such. That’s one of the things that’s false IMO. Another is that allowing it to be in the open would make it better. I’m not at all convinced that’s true. Indeed I believe putting out there would subject it to endless dem obstruction.

With the dem promises to stop all work at all cost, do you think it may be possible that they’re keeping it behind closed doors to prevent such obstruction? Isn’t that at least a possibility?

Separately, there is going to have to be more than one piece of legislation unwrapping the 0bamacare insurance scam. This will [hopefully] be the first. Then tax reform. Some may pound their chest and proclaim it should all be done now - and that sounds great. I hope that happens.

We’re on the same side i think - I’m different in that I’m not willing to give up hope on a bill that would facilitate tax reform and lead to eventual full repeal.

So, because the Dems always do this, it’s “good” that the GOPe is doing it? What other Dem practices do you want the GOP to follow?

If it’s ok to concoct the bill behind closed doors, then you were ok with Pelosi doing it?

So you trust the GOPe to give you a good healthcare bill, from behind closed doors with insurance lobbyists? You put a lot more faith in secretive GOPe than I do. Hope you’re right

Wow! I didn’t say a word about having faith in the GOPe. I don’t trust the GOPe (whether “secretive” or out in the open) at all.

Your right, let’s lose in the name of fairness. Is that you John McCain?

Hey.....it’s the Democratic way. Welcome to the new world.

The media would distort anything that leaked out of a closed hearing and trash the repeal effort. Haven’t you learned anything?

I’d like to know what the GOPe is planning for our healthcare. McConnell and Co haven’t earned my trust so far. Too bad so many freepers defend their secrecy, just because the Democrats are hypocrites. Well, the Dems may be hypocrites - of course they are - but that doesn’t excuse the GOPe from acting like Pelosi and doing their work with insurance lobbyists behind closed doors. They’re counting on the base to be suckers and defend them no matter how much they shaft us

TY, sir. Damn shame it took too many articles prior for anyone else to say the same.

I’m more pissed that this is happening NOW. WTF were they doing the last 7 years?

I would argue the withholding or lack of reporting is their biggest bias. For example, the whole situation in Twin Falls with the sexual assault by a refugee was ignored for months.

Even if it “moderately sucks” I think that is better than status quo. Can we not get SOMETHING passed?

Why pass something if it sucks. Just repeal it. The GOP has no answer for this unless they want to really go after the problems. Trumpcare will fail just like Obamacare. And they are doing this in ‘secrecy’.

Beyond my pay grade. Others have said you can’t just repeal as there will be nothing left. So I don’t know.
